Imogen Heap: Speeding Cars Meaning
Speeding Cars Lyrics
Don’t feed me violins, just run with me
Through rows of speeding cars
The paper cuts, the cheating lovers
The coffee’s never strong enough
I know you think it’s more than just bad luck
There,...

#1 top rated interpretation:I think this song is really just about someone helping their suicidal friend. The narrator has known about their friends depression for a long time, "i've watched you slowly winding down for years". "don't feed me violence just run with me through rows of speeding cars" means don't go through with killing yourself, instead run with me through this hectic life. "the paper cuts, the cheating lovers", stuff everyone has dealt with. "the coffee's never strong enough" because all of it makes them so tired and lethargic that nothing gives them energy anymore. "cause none of us were angels and you know i love you yeah" is pretty straight forward in saying, we all mess up but i still love you. "its ok by me it was a long time ago", i think the friend is sorry for something they have done to the narrator and she is saying its in the past, its ok.
having dealt with depression and having helped others deal with depression i can relate to this song a lot. -
i think imegen heap is talking to a lover she fought with.maybe he cheated on her, "none of us were angels". "just run with me through rows of speeding cars" means stay with her,by her side, helping her. "it was a long time ago" and "its ok by me" is telling him it was just a mistake and she forgives him. Anyway I love Imegen Heap!
