   clearly it means that sinners who seem above the law will one day face a judge who no one can bribe, intimadate, or elude. they will be punished no matter what they do or say to avoid it. so the sinner must either learn the lesson before he dies becuse if he learns to late he will spend enternity in the lake of fire, and he is not above god's law.

   We are all sinners and God will cut us all down because He loves us. Cut down is the same as the high priest who said that one should die for all. The truth God is speaking through people is much deeper than most realize. All are sinners and fall short of the glory of God. All are cut down from the bondage of this world. Thank God. Cut down is earthly death and the beginning of eternity. Johnny knew this better than most. He wouldn’t have recorded this song if he thought he was better than others because he’d been saved. Let’s stop pretending to be righteous so we can feel good about ourselves and humble ourselves like the sinner who beat his chest and the murderer next to Christ on the cross who is with him in paradise today. My 2 cents as a fool who loves God and believes we are not here to be “blessed” as most interpret the word.

   Meaning you can live a long life as a sinner = Gambler (taking liberty with things not your own).
   
   Rambler (speaking jibberish or twisting GODS word to suit your own purpose).
   
   Back bitter (gossip or rumor monger, spreading untruths).
   
   Midnight rider(someone who operates unseen or in the secrecy of being anonymous.)
   
   Anything any of the HOLY BOOKS agree upon being a sin.
   
   Thou shalt not kill, thou shalt not steal, thou shalt not bear false witness against your neighbor, thou shalt not covet thy neighbor's stuff, gluttony, lust, ect...)
   
   In all of the sacred writings (Bible, Koran ect.) you find GODS truth and they ALL agree. The out come of living a unrepentant sinful live will surely and ultimately have the same end game.
   
   Death both physically and spiritually.
   
   The song was Mr. Cash's way of warning humankind that the wage of sin is death.

   Those who revel in evil things will pay the wage of sin. Death... and not possibly just in a physical way but spiritualy as in no eternal life.
   
   When he says "whats done in the dark will be brought to the light" refers to the fact you might think no one sees you but GOD ALMIGHTY does.
   
   Your soul is a "recording device" that stores all of the things you've done and it will reveal itself in the pure light of truth.
   
   Watch the official video. All the people you see in the video are mocking GOD when they do the illuminati hand sign or show them left eye first.

   I take it to mean differently than most. I think Johnny is singing this to all the sinners, of which Johnny was certainly one. When he sings “God is gonna cut you down”, he doesn’t mean literally as in he’s going to punish us. But rather metaphorically as in HE will cut us down from the cross and not make us suffer but to have everlasting life with HIM if we repent and are saved.

    A gutsy and controversial song statement to be studied that was left to us by Johnny Cash [R.I.P] who admitted that he was a sinner like all of us in some way or another that learned the hard way in life by relating to the gambler,rambler,backbiter,running on for a long time with the long tongue liar and the midnight rider. He saw himself in these complex personalities that he expierienced throughout his life to sing a song like ''God is gonna cut you down'', 'cause he himself felt that he was cut down by God who allowed Satan to use on John by teaching John a lesson in suffering and to bring him down on his knees to become a born again christian in the transformation. Even in Johnny Cash's early carrier he supported and became a Christian Zionist out of his heart and love of Israel[Jesus Christ], before it was beginning to be used by some evil minds in trying to twist God's hand to bring on the second coming of the Messiah in the state of Israel by boxing in the Jews and to beat them at their own game according to the Bible in what they started in the one God religion to be cut down if they don't change their ways and turn their hearts back to him from ''meglomania egoisim'' that wants to destroy us all in it. Anotherwords John is also trying to tell us in case we are becoming like the old dictators in the islamo nazi,fascist,catholic throat cutters by our sins to stop and turn our hearts to The Lord to guide us in renewing our souls. Otherwise God is gonna cut us down by allowing Satan on us to give us some unpleasent memories in the hope to turn our hearts to The Good Lord.

    one question though. in the video it has bono from U2 in it and the graffiti on the wall behind him states "sinners make the best saints" what would be the meaning to that if the song itself is about justice and judgement.
