It is about a folk band with political differences. The punch line to each verse is the guy in the rear. It has nothing to do with Sun records. It simply parodies the political leanings of 1960's folk singers.

Johnny cash was in a quartet with Elvis Presley, Carl Perkins and Jerry lee Lewis.
And this song is talking about a four person folk group which is what The million dollar quartet with songs such as Down by the riverside and other songs with folk music so it is my understanding that this was a reference to there time at sun records
