Way Down We Go Lyrics

Father tell me, we get what we deserve
Oh we get what we deserve

And way down we go
Way down we go
Say way down we go
Way down we go

You let your feet run wild
Time has come as we all oh, go down
Yeah but for the fall oh, my
Do you...

It’s no secret that there are deep underground military bases built for the specific purpose of avoiding an apocalyptic armeageddon. The Elite and The Powers That Be communicate in cryptic phrases rite underneath our noses played on the radio or TV and I believe this is a code song for time has come to get to your bunker. I believe Greendays’ “Good Riddance”
Rolling Stones “Gimmee Shelter” is another along wth Basteiles “Pompei” which speaks of the firey destruction that they know is coming to our planet.

It's credible to consider this song I'd simply about a childs mental death over the fact that he didn't listen to his fathers warning however in a more ambiguous and deeper meaning, this song is about an unrighteous person, questioning himself if he will get what he deserves as we cleary see that his shame even as he can't look into his father's eyes is so deep. So in a more exterior depiction the singer shares his sins, unrighteousness and mental guilt through his song.

My first thought reminded me of Hoziers "Take me to church", and that he is a homosexual male that is being chased by homophobes, and that he questions religion and hell "Father tell me, do we get what we deserve?" I feel like he is accepting his choice "Way down we go" and decides to go to hell if he must.

Just my interpretation, surely people will disagree but I thought I'd post this

what I understood is that the father tells his child that "we get what we deserve" which is a fact. However the child doesn't listen and does whatever he/she wants. In the second part of the song,
"Time has come as we all oh, go down
Yeah but for the fall oh, my
Do you dare to look him right in the eyes?",
what it means is that that the child didn't to his father and the it's time to fall or basically the child's life is getting fucked up and that's when the song arises the question "Do you dare to look him right in the eyes?" while him refers to the father who warned his child before everything happens.
To conclude, I would say the main meaning of the song is summarized in the first sentence which is "we get what we deserve".

My interpretation about this song is that this is a song about a child who had to endure the hardship brought upon him/her by his/her father's past demons. And the father could only watch in torment and regret.

This song gets me thinking about Laura Mckinney who had to endure the "curse" inherited from her father: Logan Howlett

I believe this song talks about burying something from the past that is possibly full of regret.

Sounds like a song sung at a KKK meeting in a movie I saw. Was this the intention?

This interpretation has been marked as poor. view anyway

The composer and band leader of Kaleo is named "Jokull", which means 'glacier'. Some may remember 'Ejnafjallajokull' ('island mountain glacier'),the volcano that blew its top in 2010, sending a plume of ash to a height of 11km and disrupting air traffic over Europe for several months.

Cause they will run you down, down til the dark
Yes and they will run you down, down til you fall
And they will run you down, down til you go
Yeah so you can't crawl no more

    And way down we go-o-o-o-o

    Say way down we go
Cause they will run you down, down til you fall
    Way down we go

    Oh bab-bab-yeah
    Wow baby-a-aha
    Baby
    Bab, down we go
    Yeah

    And way down we go-o-o-o-o
    Way down we go
    Say way down we go
    Way down we go

The song evokes the descent into a volcano called 'Thrihnukagigur' in the rugged country south of Reykjavik, where it is possible to descend 120m into the now dormant magma chamber. Synonymous with a descent into Hell the experience instills awe, fear and exhaustion in the singer. At the start, he asks if this is a penance to him: "Do we get what we deserve?" he asks. He likens their descent to the Fall of Man, which prompts another question, "Do you dare to look him right in the eyes"? in reference to Satan whom he envisages presiding over their descent. The haunting vocalisation that follows evokes dark, frightening images, "They will run you down, til the dark/ ...til you fall .../ ...so you can't crawl any more ..." With haunting vocalisation the song dwells plaintively on this meditation until the close.
