Bedshaped Lyrics

Many's the time I ran with you down
The rainy roads of our old town
Many the lives we lived in each day
And buried altogether

Don't laugh at me
Don't look away
You'll follow me back

With the sun in your eyes
And on your...

"Many's the times I ran with you down
The rainy roads of our old town."

A long time ago you and I had a lot of good times together even when the conditions around us were not perfect.

"Many's the lives we lived in each day
    And buried altogether."

We imagined lifetimes of happy times for our future, but eventually we abandoned those and drifted apart.

"Don't laugh at me. Don't look away."

While you moved onto better things, I am still here living the remnants of a life. I don't want you to make fun of my situation, but I also don't want you to ignore me.

"You'll follow me back with the Sun in your eyes
    And on your own"

You are so strong now with so much vibrance. I imagine you one day coming back into my life.

    "Bedshaped
    And legs of stone"

I spend a lot of time accomplishing nothing, and moving anywhere new is a struggle.

"You'll knock on my door and up we'll go
    In white light"

As soon as you come back, everything will be perfect.

    "I don't think so.
But what do I know? What do I know?
    I know."

This is all just fantasy. You won't come back to me in my old age and even if you did it wouldn't be the great reunion of souls I'm hoping for. I understand reality too well to really think my hopes are plausible.

"I know you think I'm holding you down
And I've fallen by the wayside now."

My lack of progress is a detriment to be around, and I am growing ever more irrelevant to your life.

"And I don't understand the same things as you
    But I do."

You think I must not understand life to the same extent you do, but I do understand it even though I haven't acted upon it.
