This song is about our relationship with God. "I gave you everything you ever wanted, so you would never know anything else"...and here we are as humans, "laughing at the things" that were planned for us. This caused our downfall...and so we spiral down.

At first it appeared that this song referred to Lucifer's downfall. As the song progresses it seems to have more of a human meaning of a mentor/protege relationship.
