Lamb of God: Vigil Meaning
Song Released: 2013
Vigil Lyrics
I have denied this life its worth
I will not be the victim.
Sickness to you my master
Here's to getting worse
Hope it kills you faster.
Show me how it hurts to rot from the inside out.
This vigil burns
Until...

#1 top rated interpretation:Perhaps based upon the heavily political messages of ashes of the wake (i'm aware this is on as the palaces burn, but its the same band the two are close releases), I interperate this song to be likewise political disent. The "father" refered to is the head of society, the governement, the "thy will be done" is a satirical comment on the unquestioning loyalty to this "father". The biblical diction is reminiscent of the unquestioning loyalty to god in the bible. The vigil is the wait for the fall of the governement, the revolution: "this vigil burns
until the day our fires overtake you.
Our father we forsake you."
the most obvious referance to the fact that this song is rooted in reality and about the government and revolution is the line: "ask me why I hate
why I've prayed to see the nation that I loved disintegrate
and gladly give my life
that revolution regenerates."
and the song of course closes with the powerful (and powerfully presented, mad vocal rhythm in conjunction with the riff)metaphor "smite the shepherd and the sheep will be scattered."
but if anyone knows of a not-so-simple, less face value interpretation, id be very interested. -
This interpretation has been marked as poor. view anyway

The lyrics "smite the shepherd and the sheep will be scattered" is tying the song together as a whole by saying if you remove the leader/shepherd, his followers/sheep will be unguided and lost...or scattered as the lyrics say.
