Matchbox 20: Real World Meaning
Song Released: 1998
Real World Lyrics
I wonder what it's like to know that I make the rain
I'd store it in boxes with little yellow tags on everyone
And you can come see them when I'm...done, when I'm
Done
I wonder what it's like...
-
I think its about how he wants the real world to stop being a struggle and instead he wants to rise above it and get away from it.
-
He wonders what it would be like if he provided the money (making it rain boyee)
He wonders what it'd be like if he was important (being a superhero)
He wonders what it would be like if he had respect. (Head honcho)
Furthermore, he is stating he is sick of the "real world" because its problems concern him. -
I think it's based on Mt. 4:1-11, when Jesus is tempted three times by the devil in the desert.
#1 - make bread from stone, a reference to Moses getting water from stone (Rainmaker)
#2 - jump off the Temple (fly around downtown)
#3 - rule the world (be the head honcho)
