Mumford & Sons: I Will Wait Meaning
Song Released: 2012
I Will Wait Lyrics
Like a stone
And I fell heavy into your arms
These days of darkness
Which we've known
Will blow away with this new sun
And I'll kneel down
Wait for now
And I'll kneel down
Know my ground
And I will wait, I will wait...

#1 top rated interpretation:My interpretation might be a little skewed by my current situation, but I think he is waiting for a women who is in an existing relationship. For example, let's say the two fell in love while she was dating someone else ...then he would be waiting for her to break up with this third party before starting anything.
So break my step
And relent
You forgave and I won't forget
Know what we've seen
And him with less
Now in some way
Shake the excess
Clearly in this verse he references a third party "him". I think "Know what we've seen, and him with less." refers to the unique feeling they've had together that she has not experienced with the existing third part. "Now in some way shake the excess." Goes on to encourage her to find some way to let the existing boyfriend go, so they can be together.
"So I'll be bold
As well as strong
And use my head alongside my heart
So tame my flesh
And fix my eyes
That tethered mind free from the lies"
I think this is pretty straight-forward. Waiting won't be easy and it will take strength, but he's asking her to "tame my flesh" which has been restless without her. "Fix my eyes" on her.
"And I'll kneel down
Wait for now
And I'll kneel down
Know my ground."
In the mean time, that is all he can do. Is kneel and wait. Knowing his ground, and not to overstep his boundaries (and not pushing too much) until she is free to date him.
You cannot make someone love you, all you can do is be someone who can be loved. The rest is up to them. ...I think that's the situation he faces. -

#2 top rated interpretation:I believe that this song is in a reference to Jesus Christ. In this life we will go through hard times. But we are commanded to endure this world. Therefore we will end up waiting. Now if you refer to the part... "align my head along side my heart" OUr hearts have to be changed. Once our hearts are changed then the rest will follow. Christ is the one that changes our hearts. Having our heads aligned with our hearts will probably be one of the biggest challenges that we will endure here on earth. We are told in romans7 that there is a battle going on. Our flesh, and our spirit.

#3 top rated interpretation:I lost my husband two years ago. When he wants to let me know he is still with me, he will turn the radio off in the car and then turn it back on with the song he particularly wants me to hear. Then he turns the radio off again, just to make sure I get the point. This is usually the song he plays for me.
For me, the meaning is that he is waiting for me "on the other side"...its a promise that our relationship is secure and he is patiently waiting for me to join him. -
This song is about a person who is sick, sick with an addiction. He is married and has now confessed his sins to his wife and to God. He wants to change and do right by him, by her, by God and by his family. Even thought it was painful to admit who he really was inside, he is free from the pain of living a double life. And now he is working on becoming a spiritual person. While he is working on himself he is in a period of abstinence with his wife. And even though his eyes and flesh feel like they need her, he will wait for her until he heals.

I think of someone waiting for love or waiting for the chance to love someone. maybe someone they have loved for a long time, a best friend maybe, or someone they dont know

When I listen to this song I immediately think of my daughter! We’ve been trying to adopt her for two years and there have been so many signs saying to give up. Then all of a sudden this song happens to come on! Coincidence? I think not!

It's clearly a christian song, which makes it much much much better in my opinion.
Raise my hands
Paint my spirit gold
And bow my head
Keep my heart slow
among other things...i mean come on. -
Infertility. Waiting...praying..”having to use my head alongside my heart.” Being freed from the lies...the lies that you can actually conceive; when you know you truly can’t. This song hurts so deep. I keep waiting; for a child that will never come.

Marcus Mumford singing about the challenges of maintaining a relationship amidst the conflicts of life on the road. It is one of several tracks on the set inspired by the band's busy touring schedule. "We write on the road in these hectic places with lots of people around," Mumford explained to MTV News. "And I suppose we've always put in ideas that we pick up from conversations with people, and things that we read and things that we listen to and feel."

Every time I hear this song I think of a man who has passed into the afterlife. He has been torn away from someone very beloved to him, and this person is struggling to stay strong without him, so he is making a promise to this beloved that he will wait, that he will be there when it is time for his beloved to come "home" to heaven.
Even the driving instrumentation of the song reminds me of the passage of time which keeps going on strong and fast even when we wish it would slow down. Despite the fast and frantic pace of life (and the song), the singer overwhelms the chaos with his calm and reassuring voice. He says over and over again that he will wait. He is promising that you need not be afraid of what is to come when you leave this world, that you will be reunited with those who have passed before you.
The beloved you are missing can see you and is waiting for you, and will be there without fail to comfort you at the very moment you move on from this world. -
This Is obviously about The Lord. The kneel down line, you can definitely see that and the flesh. I think this song literally means that God is so good and we just have to wait for Him. The lyric, "You forgave and I won't forget." Even if you made a deep mistake, He'll still forgive You as long as it is true in your heart. If You read the lyrics or listen to this song carefully you can identify that this song is for God. (Or maybe we just have different interpretations but that's how I see this Song. : Godbless you..

And I came home
Like a stone
And I fell heavy into your arms
THIS IS ABOUT A MAN THAT WAS GOING THROUGH A REALLY TOUGH TIME, THAT LANDED IN THE ARMS OF A WOMAN THAT PICKED HIM UP.
These days of dust
Which we've known
Will blow away with this new sun
THEY COULD NOT BE TOGETHER AT THAT POINT IN TIME BECAUSE THEY BOTH HAD TOO MUCH EMOTIONAL BAGGAGE. THEY WENT THERE SEPERATE WAYS.
And I'll kneel down
Wait for now
And I'll kneel down
Know my ground
THE MAN REALISES WHAT HE'S LOST.
And I will wait, I will wait for you
And I will wait, I will wait for you
SO HE WAITS FOR HER TO COME ROUND AND REALISE THE LOVE THEY SHARE TOGETHER.
So break my step
And relent
You forgave and I won't forget
SHE FORGIVES HIM AFTER ALL THE FLAWS SHE SAW IN HIM AND HOW MUCH HE HURT HER.
Know what we've seen
And him with less
Now in some way
Shake the excess
DESPITE WHAT THEY'VE SEEN OF EACHOTHER, THEY WONT LET THE EXCESS BAGGAGE GET IN THE WAY OF THE LOVE THEY SHARE TOGETHER. HE'S WAITING FOR HER TO 'SHAKE THE EXCESS'.
But I will wait, I will wait for you
And I will wait, I will wait for you
And I will wait, I will wait for you
And I will wait, I will wait for you
So I'll be bold
As well as strong
And use my head alongside my heart
NO MATTER HOW HARD IT IS FOR HIM.
So take my flesh
And fix my eyes
That tethered mind free from the lies
TAKE EVERYTHING OF ME AND CHANGE THE HORRIBLE THINGS I'VE SEEN IN THE PAST. GIVE ME NEW LIFE.
But I'll kneel down
Wait for now
I'll kneel down
Know my ground
Raise my hands
Paint my spirit gold
And bow my head
Keep my heart slow
Cause I will wait, I will wait for you
And I will wait, I will wait for you
And I will wait, I will wait for you
And I will wait, I will wait for you -
If you read the lyrics in the context of the rest of the album, there is clearly a religious theme. The Lord, the devil, Babel, the "Crown," sin, the snake, etc. ... these are all Christian concepts and are found throughout the album. I think this song is about someone kneeling before Christ, thanking Him for His forgiveness and pledging to wait for His return.

This song is about waiting. Read some comments at Song Meanings. About your question? Yes, she said no more then you got your answer. How can you be together when both of you married another person. If you were really meant for each other, I truly believe that she is your wife now for 30 years and not another woman.
