Burn Bright Lyrics

So give me all you've got,
I can take it
We walked alone in your city lights
Did you make it?
We lit the fire and it's burning bright
Did you take it?
Kissed all the boys in your city lights
Did you make it?

I've always interpreted it as kind of Gerard's hidden "coming out."
Alot of the lyrics point towards him saying that he's in love with another guy.

Illuminati? lol this song is about being in love with another guy (probably that whole Frank/Gerard thing).
"They always told that you never get to heaven with a love like yours" is obviously about homosexuality being seen as a sin, and then there are parts about no being ashamed of who he is and stuff. Pretty obvious for me.

I think it's about getting up when you can't and surviving when life gets tough but that's just my opinion

So give me all you’ve got,
    I can take it
(He can take all of her/his problems)
We walked alone in your city lights (He/She described to him his demons)
    Did you make it?
We lit the fire and it’s burning bright
(They took on his/her problems and destroyed them or forgot about them, by maybe having sex)

    Did you take it?
    (Did he/she take his problems)
Kissed all the boys in your city lights (he/she is pretty much a whore)
    Did you make it?
(was he/she able to live with themselves for their affairs)
Left all the stars in your city nights
(He/she hid certain problems as in sleeping with others)
    Can you fake it?
(Can he/she keep pretending it's just him)
I lost my way in your city lights
(He got lost in her/his problems)
    Clutching me,
    We stole the fire
    And it’s burning bright
(He is being hurt in the end by his/her problems)

So give me all you’ve got,
    I can take it
We walked around in your city lights
‘Cause it makes me who I am
    We lit the fire
    And it’s burning bright
Not ashamed of what I am
(He's not ashamed for being the one to sleep with him/her, even though he was one of many)
    I took the pills
    For these empty nights
(He took pill and got high to deal with night without him/her)
‘Cause it makes me who I am
(He feels more complete on drugs)

    They always told me that
    “You'll never get to heaven
    With a life like yours.
(If it's a him, being gay is a sin, if it's a girl, sleeping with her and not realizing it wasn't love just sex)
Well, if you’re lost, little boy,
Oh, well, the cameras pull you right back down, yeah.
(The town finds out about his/her multiple intercourse)
    It’s like a chemical burn,
I'm peeling off your skin, yeah.
(He is dealing with heartbreak but able to because him/her is exposed)
And when you see your face,
Well, you'll never be the same again, yeah.”
(He/she will never be looked at the same or look at themselves the same)

Cause if you just stop breathing,
I'll stop, I'll stop my heart
    I'll stop breathing too
(If him/her took their life, he couldn't live with the guilt)

So give me all you’ve got,
    I can take it
We walked around in your city lights
‘Cause it makes me who I am
    We lit the fire,
    And it’s burning bright
Not ashamed of what I am,
I'd trade the world for your city nights (he would take his life to sleep with him/her again)
‘Cause it makes me who I am
And it makes me who I am
And it makes me who I am
(Him/her makes him complete more then any drug)

And though I missed the chance for this,
    I confess that I can’t wait,
    Until it’s gone
No I mean this every single day
(Even though he missed his chance to have actual love with him/her, he can't wait till the heartbreak ends)
So go if you can’t burn inside
(He wants him/her to leave if they aren't heartbroken)
    ‘Cause the world don’t need
    Another hopeless cause
(The world doesn't need them anymore)
Though it makes me who I am
‘Cause it makes me who I am
And you made me who I am
And you made me who I am
Be afraid of what I am
(He/her have made him into a monster)

    I can take it
We walked around in your city lights,
(He doesn't care anymore, he dealt with him/her)
‘Cause it makes me who I am
I burned it all and I'm doin' fine
(He took the reputation from (him/her)
    ‘Cause I’ll never fade away,
(Even If he is gone before him/her, he wants to haunt them
If I steal the fire from your city nights (he makes himself the only problem in him/her)
‘Cause it makes me who I am
    Who I am

"So give me all you’ve got,
    I can take it
We walked alone in your city lights
    Did you make it?
We lit the fire and it’s burning bright
    Did you take it?
Kissed all the boys in your city lights
    Did you make it?
Left all the stars in your city nights
    Can you fake it?"
The way I see things, this song is about him singing to someone who was raised in a world where all the attention was on them (for the sake of "Kissed all the boys", it'll be a girl), and everyone else stood behind the scenes, basking in the light she was given.
But then she gets sick of it. She realizes that there's no purpose in that life. So she's telling him all her problems, hence "I can take it", and he's asking her if she can fake the light that she had before, but of course, it was all a lie that she had been fed all her life.

"Cause it makes me who I am
    We lit the fire
    And it’s burning bright
Not ashamed of what I am
    I took the pills
    For these empty nights
‘Cause it makes me who I am"
So he tells her about a group of people who stole the fire (the fame, the inspiration, the glory) from that place and made it something even brighter.

    "They always told me that
    “You'll never get to heaven
    With a life like yours.
Well, if you’re lost, little boy,
Oh, well, the cameras pull you right back down, yeah.
    It’s like a chemical burn,
I'm peeling off your skin, yeah.
And when you see your face,
Well, you'll never be the same again, yeah.”"
Next, he's telling her about his life, how he was raised under the same lies that said he couldn't be good enough the way he was.
And if someone born into this tried to find the truth, they were pulled back down by the flashing lights and glittering stars of that lifestyle. The chemical burn could be harsh words that changed them permanently into someone they were never meant to be.

"Cause if you just stop breathing,
I'll stop, I'll stop my heart
    I'll stop breathing too"
So he's chosen her as someone who he is set on saving, and if she gives up, then he will too.

"I'd trade the world for your city nights"
In contrast to "City lights", "City nights" would be the absence of light, the purity behind everything that was going on in the city of lies.

"And though I missed the chance for this,
    I confess that I can’t wait,
    Until it’s gone
No I mean this every single day
So go if you can’t burn inside
    ‘Cause the world don’t need
    Another hopeless cause"
He's telling her that he's putting his all into restoring her to her true self, and that if she can't handle being that, then he doesn't have to waste more time on her (though he probably would), because she would then be just another hopeless cause like all the others.

"I burned it all and I'm doin' fine
    ‘Cause I’ll never fade away,
If I steal the fire from your city nights"
One last time, he assures her that this is the only way to live, that he's doing fine even though he burned his past life which was probably very traumatic.
And he'll stop at nothing to ensure that she carries on the truth that he has to offer by making the fire within her (and hey, all of us, considering that this was their last album) burn bright as part of their legacy.

~Now, I don't know if this was Gerard Way's intention, but I don't think it was about homosexuality or the Illuminati so... I hope this was something that was never thought of before and that it will encourage someone to burn bright as well.

To me this is about someone thats completely lost in life and has maybe some sort of self destruction addiction?
The lyrics are really powerful and always make me cry. I cant believe they arent a band anymore :(

i believe that MCR is not an illuminati because there song are about changing yourself....in danger days its not about Illuminati its about what happening right now on our world like the new world order or corrupt government...listen to Sing and bulletproof heart you can find the lyrics "tell the truth and God will save you..."

Illuminati? Dudes that's just silly, MCR wouldn't do that. For me, this song seems like it's about being in a relationship with a girl who is self destructive, like drug abuse, which is why she is frowned on by people around him "they always told me that you'll never get to heaven with a love like yours" I kinda imagine this girl to be partying a lot in the "city" and he's being self destructive too. "Give me all you got I can take it" so she's giving him drugs. That kind of idea.

and the things they do to make Bands famous but also Gerards in many interviews said that mcr was abt to change because they were manipulated and forcet to put content out that they never wanted to show...

    Listen Haven help uss

Between Balck parade and Danger Days

After Danger days they decided to expose iluminaty , gerard even say that he will get killed and appear on tv.

So thats whay they made all those weapons For us all the listeners

This Complete album is a Way Mcr figured Out to teach u How to resist the iluminati conspiracy , you can see it in Danger Days too , in this song they theach you that you dont need a sun as a GOd , you can Burn yourself as bright , And all the other songs those are Our Weapons to defent Gerard Made it Clear in the lyrics.

Ok - MCR and the illuminati? As far as i'm concerned this band saved my life and I love them dearly - whatever they have been or are part of is up to them. All you read about the illuminati are conspiracys and noone knows the truth or the full aspect of the truth. I interpret Burn Bright as a song for outcasts standing out and fighting society - the clean corporate world. CW was made before Danger Day's but it's just as good as all the MCR stuff - I hope to hear of the next album soon. People need to start respecting MCR they are honest, decent guys, I love them to pieces - Even Mikey's incident with cheating on Alicia... It hasn't stopped me loving them. I'm now off to twitter... which is @RealBenRist so if anyone wants to comment about what i've said... do it there! Piece out to the masses.

Lol you are part of their team? And what brainwashing techniques were used in the black parade? I thought the album pretty much sold itself... And the stuff Gerard come out with about the album that must have been b.s if it isn't even their work and the sole purpose was just to sell records

My Chemical Romance are trying to expose the illuminati - that was what Danger Days is about and the CW has been reworked to expose them. Bob Bryar is still part of them which is why he had to leave. I know this because I am part of their team. On The Black Parade, alot of illuminati brainwashing techniques were used - Mainly to sell albums. Right now MCR are the most honest band around and people need to start respecting them.

Lol I don't think they ever joined and no song from black parade has any hidden agenda behind it. Like most lyrics there left for the interpretation of it audience, so rather than 'jump the gun'I suggest you listen much closely to their songs. Also what would you say about 'Tomorrows Money' from CW? I think that is an anti illuminati song aint it?

My Chemical Romance during The Black Parade were members of the illuminati and the Conventional Weapons contain hidden messages and even in the song titles "Burn Bright" "The Light Behind Your Eyes" and even in some of the lyrics "Hail Hail cos the king is gone" in Kiss The Ring. The band left the illuminati before Danger Days as they have morals but ex-drummer Bob Bryar remained. That's why he had to leave. The band care very much for their fans and in Danger Days are actually warning them of the agenda. My Chemical Romance first joined as Billie Jo Armstrong - Green Day's lead singer asked them too. Blink 182 are also members and tried to get them back by touring with them but MCR to this day will continue to tell fans about this in their 5th album and even in the Conventional Weapons package some songs have been reworked to subliminaly warn MCR and the danger they are now in, running from the illuminati.
