My Chemical Romance: Cemetery Drive Meaning
Cemetery Drive Lyrics
Walk the dead
In a solitary style and crash the cemetery gates
In the dress your husband hates
Way down
Mark the grave
Where the searchlights find us drinking by the mausoleum door
And they found you on the bathroom...

#1 top rated interpretation:The song, in relation to the story the whole album follows, can be broken down into little pieces for easy chewing. ^^
"This night, walk the dead
in a solitary style
and crash the cemetery gates"
A very condensed summary of the story goes like this: The husband died while the wife lives. In order for him to live again, he has to bring the devil the souls of a 1000 evil men.
These lines say that he is walking in the cemetery.
"In the dress your husband hates"
The woman gets remarried, and I think she believes by wearing the dress that her present husband hates, it won't be like she betrayed the man she was once married to.
"Way down, mark the grave
Where the search lights find us
drinking by the mausoleum door"
She may not be able to see him, but he's there with her, drinking with her, watching and following her.
"And they found you on the bathroom floor"
She kills herself.
"Back home, off the run
singing songs that make you slit your wrists
it isn't that much fun, staring down a loaded gun"
This is before she kills herself, which says she's tried to commit suicide before, and that she was depressed.
"Did you get what you deserve?
is this what you always want me for? "
He asks her if she's found peace, and if his death was an excuse for her to die.
Well, that's what I think. :3 Hope it helps! -

#2 top rated interpretation:The thing that tricks me the most is the lines:
"Did you get what you deserve?
Is this what you always want me for?"
I sort of see it as the husband who was cheated on asking his dead wife, "Did you always want this? Was I just a distraction?" Maybe, his wife committed suicide not because of guilt but of sadness, a depression which led to her cheating on her husband. The line about deserving death, I don't think, was one of anger but sort of the line that people tell you when someone dies: they're in a better place now, at peace. -
so mine is that her boyfriend, maybe fiance died. she is depressed and goes and gets drunk in the graveyard, and all the drinks do is make her remember. she is wearing something her new husband hates, and she really couldnt care less. she gets home afterwords, and is "staring down a loaded gun" about to kill herself. " found you on the bathroom floor" means they found her dead. but she went to hell for suicide and her boyfriend/fiance died in an accident, so he is in heaven. they dont see each other and he misses her, so half of it is commited to the girl and most of the rest is the dead boyfriend/fiance. her new husband really didnt care, henceforth the "when will i miss you?" verses. "way down" repeated over and over, is telling you that this is how all three feel deep down.
man am i dark or what? -
I think it's about a girl being abused by her lover/husband. I think that made her very upset, maybe even depressed. She had an affair with someone and the guy she had an affair with and her would go drinking at cemeteries. At one point, this girl can't take the pain anymore and kills herself.
Now comes in the song.
I believe the narrator is the guy she had an affair with looking back at the memories. He's sad she died. He thinks about the things they did together, maybe even tracing the steps. He goes to the places where they used to go.
Thinking about how they used to crash the cemetery, where she now lays herself, and all the happy memories they had.
"Did you get what you deserve?"
Is this what she deserved? I think the narrator thinks life is unfair, and that the girl deserved more than what she got. -
this song s about Gerard's Friend who died from suicide. The album Three Cheers for sweet revenge was dedicated to her and Mikey and Gerard's grandma, Helena.

So I think that this song is about a girl, who was married to a man, but betrayed him with another guy. Because the man didn't accept their relationship, she killed herself, and now the guy visits her grave.
'This night walk the dead', I'd say this is about the guy, who's depressed now and feels dead inside because the girl left her/committed suicide.
'In a solitary style and crash the cemetery gates', the guy visits the girl's grave alone.
'In the dress your husband hates', I think the dress was a present from the guy to the girl, but the man didn't like the fact that she received presents by another man. He wears the dress to keep her in mind.
'Way down, mark the grave', the guy's feeling sad and searchs the girl's grave.
'Where the search lights find us drinking by the mausoleum door': the girl was addicted to alcohol, and so is the guy, because he wants to escape his sadness, and it's like the guy ran away from home/his problems (maybe the man is after him now, because he got to know from their secret relationship?) to be with the dead girl, and drinking at the grave feels like spending time together.
'And they found you on the bedroom floor': she committed suicide.
'Well I miss you, I miss you so far, and the collision of your kiss that made it so hard', he misses her and the lovely relationship between them made the farewell so hard.
'Back home, off the run' may stand for the problems the guy he was trying to run away from, but he has given up and doesn't think that things will get better.
'Singing songs that make you slit your wrist' means that he's thinking suicidal thoughts and his head makes him depressed.
'Isn't that much fun? Staring down on a loaded gun..' (my favorite part ahh <3 xDD) means that he's thinking about killing himself, once again.
'So I won't stop dying, won't stop lying': He's still depressed and dies inside, but he will always pretend that he's fine in front of other people.
'If you want I'll keep on crying' means that he will do whatever the girl wants him to, because he's so confused and sad that he doesn't know what to do.
'Did you get what you deserve?': He asks her if she's fine, so at least one of them can be happy.
'Is that what you always want me for?' means that he asks her if he'll ever be happy again or if he'll always be depressed and missing her.
'Way down, way down, way down,..' stands for his feelings; he's feeling depressed and doesn't seem to see an ending of his sadness.
So, that's my interpretation of the song, which is by the way my favorite <3
Hope you understood everything, sorry if my English sucked sometimes, I'm not a native speaker.

Have a nice day everyone :) -
I believe this song was about Gerard's friend who killed herself because either she or her husband had an affair. I can't really interpret the lyrics, but if you type into YouTube: "Cemetery Drive Stripped" you find that Ray and Frank say "Don't do it!!" in the background...
-
i think it might be about a girl who was also addicted to alchohol and Gerard really liked her, but before he could tell her she killed herself. she had a husband but he beat her so she ran away and she slept in the cemetery and Gerard would meet her every night. one night they were drinking together and she went off to the bathroom, when she didnt come back Gerard went to go see if she was ok, she had shot herself. but before she had gone she had kissed him. thats just my version but i did hear that Gerard and Mikey actually had a friend (a girl) who shot herself in her bathroom so matbe that has something to do with it. xx

I think its about a woman who had an affair and the police and her husband were searching for her 'Where the search lights find us' and they took her back home 'Back home, off the run' and she couldn't go on living like this 'Singing songs that make you slit your wrists' so she told the man she had an affair with to kill her and he wouldn't 'So I won't stop dying, won't stop lying' 'And the collision of your kiss that made it so hard' but he finally did 'Is this what you always want me for?' 'I miss you, I miss you so far'
I also heard that Gerard and Mikey had a friend that shot herself in a bathroom before they left for their first tour so the song was about her. -
i think with mcr's songs it can say alot of things and i think it can mean something different depending on who it is, what there life is like, a memory, etc...
-
It's, in my view, supposed to be from a cheating husband who remembers all of the good times he had with his wife, becomes depressed, and kills himself.
-
I don't think this song is about an affair at all. I think it's about missing someone. The woman is visiting the man's grave in a dress that her new husband hates because her dead lover liked it. She's depressed and "sings song that make her slit her wrists" because she misses him. They found his body on the bathroom floor. She misses him. The way he kissed her before he died makes it hard to forget him. It could fit into the whole "thousand evil men" thing if you squint a bit.
-
I heard that it's about Gerard's ex who committed suicide.

This night
Walk the dead
In a solitary style and crash the cemetery gates
In the dress your husband hates
(The singer is at a funeral, uninvited, for the woman he loves. he was most likely in an affair with her. thats what crash the cemetary gates in the dress your husband hates means.)
Lay down
Mark the grave
Where the searchlights find us drinking by the mausoleum door
And they found you on the bathroom floor
(later that night, he is drinking by her grave, i think your supposed to assume suicide because of "they found you on the bathroom floor")
Well I miss you
Well I miss you so far
And the collision of your kiss that made it so hard
(just saying how he misses her and how its so hard because of how much he loved her)
Back home
Off the run
Singing songs that make you slit your wrists
It isn't that much fun staring down a loaded gun
( he is contemplating killing himself to be with her, but having second thoughts)
So I won't stop dying
Won't stop lying
If you want I'll keep on crying
Did you get what you deserve?
Is this what you always want me for?
(He isnt going to kill himself. or give up. he is angry at her and confused as to why she did this.)
Well I miss you
Well I miss you so far
And the collision of your kiss that made it so hard
(he misses her.)
Way down, way down
Way down, way down
Way down, way down
Way down, way down
(either talking about the feeling of deep depression, or about lowering her into her grave. maybe a thousand things more. idk.)
Well I miss you
Well I miss you so far
And the collision of your kiss that made it so hard
(misses her)
Well will I miss you
Well will I miss you so far
And the collision of your kiss that made it so hard
Made it so hard
(asdf)
Way down, way down
Way down, way down
Way down, way down
Way down, way down
Way down

There are a few interpretations for this song right off the bat if that's not obvious. I guess my one interpretation of this song is noted from the opening statement. 'This night
Walk the dead In a solitary style and crash the cemetery gates In the dress your husband hates.' So maybe the girl/women he Gerard Way is singing about is a whore and she wears skimmpy dresses and she was with gerard in a cemitary at a funeral.
Because that would lead you into the next part of the song so, they were drinking after said funeral in the same cemetery authorities arrive and they find her on the floor.
But he fell in love with the married women coming to the assumption that she loved him because he missed her and her kiss. And that women missed him to the point of suicide and mutilation.
Now he is dying inside because he doesn't know anymore he feels as if this married women has left him like she left her husband. -
The way I understood the song, was that a woman was having an affair with some guy in a graveyard. The line 'in the dress you husband hates' implies that perhaps she does not have a good relationship with her husband. The song sounds like it the man she's cheating with is singing, and perhaps he only found out that she was married after she killed herself. The man (whom she was having an affair with) mourns for her- so I won't stop dying, won't stop lying, if you want, I'll keep on crying, did you get what you deserve? Is this what you always want me for?- but it is implied that the woman was using this man, but the poor guy still loves her and misses her.
My interpretation, so it's likely I could be wrong -
i think this song is about a girl who thinks she's made the wrong decision about the man she wants when he hurts of beats her and she meets a new man but the old one won't let her go and she has only one choice on how to get rid of him as far as she can see. so she goes to a Cemetery in the dress he hates marks her grave and kills herself. [I always pictured her like OD-ing not like shooting or slitting] And the I miss you is the new man after he learns of her death.
