Famous Last Words Lyrics
That I can't make you stay
But where's your heart
But where's your heart
But where's your
And I know
There's nothing I can say
To change that part
To change that part
To change
So many

-
This is about the patient coming to terms with his inevitable death.
"Now I know
That I can't make you stay
But where's your heart
But where's your heart
But where's your"
He realises that this person can't come with him, and that had made him angry.
"And I know
There's nothing I can say
To change that part
To change that part
To change"
He knows that there's nothing he can say or do to change the fact that he's dying.
"So many
Bright lights they cast a shadow
But can I speak
Well, is it hard understanding
I'm incomplete
A life that's so demanding
I get so weak
A love that's so demanding
I can't speak"
He wants this person to know that their everything to him.
The life that's so demanding is living with chemo
and the love for this person is so strong he can't began to explain.
"I am not afraid to keep on living
I am not afraid to walk this world alone
Honey, if you stay I'll be forgiven
Nothing you can say can stop me going home"
But now he's not afraid to die (death is only another part of life) even though this person wants him to live, to be there forever, he is sick of the fight (chemo/cancer/agony) that he just wants to go home (die)
"Can you see?
My eyes are shining bright
'Cause I'm out here on the other side
Of a jet black hotel mirror
And I'm so weak
Is it hard understanding
I'm incomplete
A love that's so demanding
I get weak"
He's wandering if this person can see that he's ready to die he's not fighting, not depressed. Still he's incomplete without this person but he's too weak to love (him/her)
After repeating several verses it goes on to say:
"These bright lights have always blinded me
These bright lights have always blinded me
I said"
The 'bright lights' is life (he's never enjoyed life)
"I see you lying next to me
With words I thought I'd never speak
Awake and unafraid
Asleep or dead"
This person is lying next to him and he never thought he would say what he was going to say (maybe the love was never actually spoken of)the 'famous last words' are "I Love You" and with those words the patient dies. -
i have to write an interpretation of a song for an english essay paper, i have chose this one. i think this song is about many things. first off i think (like many have pointed out) it is about Mikey (michael) leaving the band because of his depressions and how they all ahd to come to terms wiht that.
but at the same time i also think its about the thinsg they experience while being 'famous'. like how they have made and lost friends along the way.
my final interpretation is that its about substance abuse. and how even though they are alive, maybe they aren't actually living. and how they feel like they are talking and trying to reach out for help but no one is hearing what they are saying. -
Well this song seems like the poem annabel lee by edgar allen poe. basically I think it's saying that the guy in the story is sad that his girlfriend/wife whatever you want to think of it as, is going to die and he's always known this. but even after she dies, he's not going to be afraid to walk this world alone. and it seems like that nothing ever good happened to him and pretty much the only good thing was this girl coming into his life and then knowing a little later that she'll die and there's nothing he can do about it.
This is what I think and the others I've read are really different. -
I think the patient died from heart illness.
1. In "Dead!", the lyrics "found a complication in your heart, so long..."
2. MCR site, where the minigame somewhere says "how did you get here?" and the only way to advance forward in this game is to click the heart -
He is having problems with his lover asking "where's (her) heart" and saying "there's nothing (he) could say to change (that)"
He has had many near death experiences and it's hard to speak. He feels incomplete without saying this. His lover is so demanding that he gets weak and it is hard for him to speak.
He says that if he lives he won't be afraid to continue his life, even if it is alone. He will be forgiven if his lover stays with him, and nothing can stop him now from saying what he needs to say ("coming home").
He is determined to live ("My eyes are shining bright") because he doesn't want to die. He knows he is close to death by being "on the other side of a jet black hotel mirror", wich is the cloak of death, and it weakens him. He reminds her that it's not hard to understand that he's incomplete and that she is so demanding that he gets weak, but is still determined to live and to say what he needs to.
The bright lights he sees are starting to blind him. He recalls a time when they were lying next to each other with words he thought he'd never say (such as " I love you") when he was awake and unafraid. even if he was asleep, and now even if he's dead. and he continues to see this image.
He is still determined to live even if it is alone and will always see that image even if he's dead. -
I feel that this song is about someone in a relationship and they don't want the one they love to leave them, although they can still partially manage to live without them but they would see the other person staying with them to be a miricle to witch they are forgiven. Also life and love are slowly throwing them into a dark heartless void.
-
I think this song is about suicide and a guy begging his lover not to let go and kill herself. But that is without any regards to the end-to-beginning storyline of the album. I have two questions. 1: what is the album's overall storyline? 2: Does the story really intertwine with Three Cheers?
-
(There's a number of ways the meaning of this song can go, be it referring to love, the Patient or Mikey's turmoil. But, interestingly, I have found another way that people could translate this song. I'm not %100 sure this is the correct, but this is the way I see it:)
Now I know
That I can't make you stay
But where's your heart?
But where's your heart?
But where's your...
(In the narrator's POV, there's this person that he's really in love with or considers to be a good friend and he doesn't want them to leave him/her alone. In the "where's your heart?" part, he's basically asking whether or not they truly care about them. Where do their feelings in their heart for him/her truly reside? In hatred or love?)
Now I know
There's nothing I can say
To change that part
To change that part
To change...
(The narrator knows he/she cannot be with this friend/lover forever.)
So many bright lights they cast a shadow
But can I speak?
Well, is it hard understanding?
I'm incomplete
(The first part of the line could mean "no matter how many good personality traits you have, you will always have a certain flaw in your personality.". But then the narrator points out that he/she has so many flaws that they can't determine what's so great about themselves.)
A life that's so demanding
I get so weak
A love life so demanding
I can't speak
(The first two lines are pretty self-explanatory: life is quite sucky for him/her right now and by the end of the day, they're exhausted because they put so much effort into trying to survive in this world. The same thing applies to the last two lines.)
I am not afraid to keep on living
I am not afraid to walk this world alone
(What he/she's trying to say is that they feel so alone, that they're beginning to find solace in it.)
Honey if you stay I'll be forgiven
Nothing you can say can stop me going home
(...To be quite honest, I have no idea. Maybe if this person stays with the narrator for a certain time, he/she will talk things out with them and he/she will probably be forgiven for the mistakes they have made? I don't know.)
Can you say?
My eyes are shining bright
'Cause I'm out there on the other side
Of a jet black hotel mirror
And I'm so weak
(Bascially, the narrator says that they may look like they're happy on the outside, but on the inside, they're suffering.)
These bright lights have always blinded me
(The bright lights are the people he/she cares about and the narrator has always been "blinded" by them, meaning that he/she has always believed that they were better than him/her and that he/she doesn't deserve them. That, OR, he/she is saying that he wants to interact more with the people that they care about the most, but something always holds the him/her back.)
I see you lying next to me
With words I thought I'd never speak
Awake and unafraid
Asleep or dead
(He/she is finally opening up to his friend/lover about his/her lonliness, depression and low self-esteem. While he/she is saying these things though, at the back of their minds they're thinking "Is this really happening? Am I really opening up? Is this a dream, am I awake or am I dead?".)
(In conclusion, this is the interpretation I have found: it's about a person who is suffering from depression and low self-esteem and they feel that they are all alone in this world. But in the end of the song, they decide that they can take things from here and that he/she can try to battle his or her own inner demons. Yes, I know, it's quite a shitty interpretation. But before you go shoving it in my face, I just want to remind you that everyone has a different perspective. Do not judge someone's opinion, for they will surely judge yours.
By the way, this is a kick-ass song! I recommend it to people who love rock n' roll!) -
This song is probably about a patient in a hospital whose friend, lover, or family member is also a patient. Presumably they were in some kind of accident together or something... but I digress. I think he is asking the person to fight and try to keep living, but the person does not think she can do it.
"Jet black hotel mirror"- Never really understood that line, but it might refer to death.
"These bright lights have always blinded me"- I'm guessing he wants to get out of the hospital. (And who wouldn't?)
"Honey, if you stay I'll be forgiven; nothing you can say can stop me going home."- If she dies, he'll never really forgive himself, but they both know she'll never convince him to die as well.
If you don't agree with this interpretation, please do not hate, insult, or prosecute me. Thank you. -
Whether this song is about Mikey or not, I have to say that I see it as struggling to survive, despite all problems, sadness, and misery, i.e. Trying to convince yourself that you're strong enough to live and defeat all the hard consequences which you're living under.
I think, in the first part he's telling that someone left him when it was really bad time to leave( it could be Mikey) (but where's your heart?), but i'd rather think that it is a girlfriend or sb in question.
The song really rocks..
The song is really great, -
My belief is that this song is about defiance in the face of ultimate adversity (possibly death) and I often listen to this song when I'm feeling depressed as it is th best on the album and it cheers me up.
-
People it is all very simple, and if you actually watched or read the interviews Gerard says that the whole record is about the world being horrible and dark and that last one famous last words is about how even thou the world is a horrible place it is still beautiful and that he isn't afraid to keep on living in it and keep on moving forward
-
Actually in an Article in I believe it was "blender" Mag. Im not quite sure when maybe a year ago. But during and interview Gerard had Claimed that the song he wrote "famous Last Words" Is in fact about his baby bro...Who we all Love... and how at a certain time in his life he too was also depressed. And how in the song Gerard is begging his brother to stay with Him...
Im so sorry I don't remember what issue this was but the article is AMAZING! Just try and research It really gets deep down into what each of there songs mean on TBP! -
To the guy that says that the people who thinks the song is about death are idiots, you are the idiot... Their whole third album, the black parade, basically revolves around the idea of death...
-
I always thought it was about the Patient being given a shot at life again but is not sure if he really wants it...
