My Chemical Romance: Helena Meaning
Song Released: 2005
Helena Lyrics
Just like the hearse you die to get in again
We are
So far from you
Burning on
Just like a match you strike to incinerate
The lives
Of everyone you know
And what's the worst can take
From every heart you break
And like the...

This song is DEFINITELY about his grandmother, and everyone who thinks differently is WRONG!!! And the whole thing about it being about some dumbass girlfriend is crap! It's about his girlfriend, he was trying to express himself. We're all different. We express ourselves differently. I have read AND heard on more than one interview that Gee dedicated this song to his grandmother Elena. If any of you think you're an MCR fan and you said it was about some stupid girlfriend, you're very obviously NOT a real fan. He was trying in his own way to be compassionate you self conceded insensitive idiots!! Stop saying that the meaning is anything but about his dead grandmother which he loved SOOO much and really cared about! I have practically been in love with MCR for years and , once again, it's about his grandmother!! That's the truth! Don't be fooled by these people who very obviously don't know what they're talking about or the stupid media lies! Look at the hundreds of MCR fan sites and Gee's dedications and quotes.
Ahh, I have peace now. :) -
I know that it's supposed to be about their dead grandmother, but MY interpretation is that the narrator is directing the song at someone he knew... friend, lover, sibling, parent, it doesn't matter- that committed suicide. He's rebuking them for the hurt they caused him and everyone else, and telling them that he doesn't plan to follow.
-
No offense tempest I think you have the right idea I love what your saying but do you really half to yell at every body I saw a lot of of your other interpretations it's their own opinion well isn't it ??!!!
-
I personally think xxavr1l1zg0d666xx is retarded. Why would it be about Zorro??? If you would pay any attention the the lyrics or the video, Helena is about his GRANDMOTHER. No not about Zorro. Gerard's grandmother died and she taught him everything and he misses her badly
-
Really no one knows because he is the one how wrote the song its his song so really we can guess all we won't about it and fight and argue about it but no one really knows for sure.
-
Do you guys think Gerard would have a suicide pact? come on, he may be a bit morbid in his lyrics but I really don't believe he would try to kill himself. and to all who argue the whole it's a song for their grandmother issue, you don't know. you are not Gerard or Mikey so how can you deny that? and it could also be about the girlfriend. like I said before, you don't know because you are not them. and I do believe that my chemical romance wants you to interpret their song in a way that relates to you. This song could be about someone in your life. did you ever think of that? seriously, interpret the lyrics as what relates to you. and to whoever said emos suck, fuck you. you have no right to say anything sucks, and you definitely have no right disrespecting my chemical romance like that. let's see you make two albums and be famous world wide. come on, let's see it. :)

Ok so the song is about two deaths but the main one is Mikey and Gerard's grandmother passing away. Her name was Elena not helena and since her death Gerard has been suicide because of it. There have been saying though that Elena had mental illnesses and pushed Mikey and Gerard away from her along with the rest of her family. She was a main influence on there music though. She gave Gerard his first car that appeared on the "I'm Not Okay" music video, the white van. There are probably more complex meanings to this song but this is the main one.
-
Umm.. from what I have seen and read I can only conlude that it was in fact about the grandmother. Why would they use her to cover up a suicidal ex?
-
This song was written about the death of Elena, Gerard and Mikeys grandmother. She was called Helena as she grew up and that is where the name of this song came from. She was very close to Gerard and you hear the emotion as he sings.
-
The whole freaking song is a about Gerard way's grandmother whoever said it's about his girlfriend/wife are total RETARDS he has a wife and she's not dead her name is Lyn-z she's the bass player from the band called mindless self indulgence OH MY GOD you people no nothing about Gerard I guess your not true fans BASTARDS
-
Well, I reckon it's about his girlfriend, because his grandmother didn't commit suicide, and, like said before, "Burning on just like the match you strike
To incinerate the lives of everyone you know" isn't really something to sing to your beloved grandmother, who taught you everything. So the next person that says it's about his grandmother, answer this question "why would they sing about his grandmother with lyrics suggesting that he hates her" I mean, come on people! use your logic! -
I think it is about his grandmother dying and he is thinking about commiting suicide to join her "so far away". It evens says, "we'll meet again".
but then he says goodbye and realizes its better if he moves on and lives his life.- "What's the worst that I can say?
Things are better if I stay
So long and goodnight
So long and goodnight.
It's about getting over losing someone. -
OK! right I KNOW THIS FOR A FACT so please don't slag it off! :P
right, the song WAS named after their grandma, in honour of her, but she died AFTER THEY WROTE THE SONG! not after they recorded it, so she might have inspired some parts, but they named it in her honour and it WASN'T written ABOUT her, but FOR her! now, if you look on the inside of the album cover there is a picture (drawn by gerard) of a girl, or young woman, on an autopsy table, this is Helena, as Gerard sees her now, this also kinda fits as he suggested the woman playing Helena in the video (she looks awfully like the picture he drew). okay, so I don't actually know who Helena is, or was, or whether she ever existed at all, but all the evidence points away from the grandma theory (although it WAS named after her) -
Th reason this song is called Helena is because even though Gerard and Mikey's grandmother's name was Elena, many people in their family called her Helen and the boys got confused and started calling her Helena.
