The Kids From Yesterday Lyrics

And now this could be the last of all the rides we take
So hold on tight and don't look back
We don't care about the message or the rules they make
We'll find you when the sun goes black

And you want to live forever in the lights you...

I think this is definitely one of those songs that can be interpreted differently depending on the person, but here's my interpretation of it...

''Well now this could be the last of all the rides we take
So hold on tight and don't look back
We don't care about the message or the rules they make
I'll find you when the sun goes black''

The first verse, tells of how you never know when the end will come, and that you have to make each and every one of those moments count, whatever it may be. You have to be your own person and live to the fullest

''And you only live forever in the lights you make
When we were young we used to say
That you only hear the music when your heart begins to break
Now we are the kids from yesterday''

The chorus then says when you're gone, you are remembered for what you've done, and the impact you've had on people. They're the generation that's past, and for your legacy to live on through the kids of today, you've gotta make your mark. The line ''You only hear the music when your heart begins to break'' Means that when you listen to lyrics and music that you can relate to, you truly understand what the song is about, and that you're not alone. You wanna be the kind of person who writes these lyrics so the next generation know they're not alone.

''All the cameras watch the accidents and stars you hate
They only care if you can bleed
Does the television make you feel the pills you ate?
Or every person that you need to be''

This means, the world wants you to be a boring copy of the perfect person, the person they need you to be, but you've gotta ignore that, reach for whatever potential and dream you want to, and show your true characteristic, no matter what. The TV and media shows you the world that they want. Not only the celebrities that you may despise, but also keeps you in fear and keeps you normal. Again, who cares what they think? Like who you like, be you.

''Here we are and we won't stop breathing
Yell it out 'til your heart stops beating''

The We describes all the people who maybe don't like mainstream music, or who don't like what everyone else does, and will stay with there own views till the end. And these people, are the kids from yesterday, leaving their mark on the kids of today.

Again this is my own interpretation, but that's what this song means to me.

I haven't really fit it all together yet, but it's kind of about death. Not really morbid like the stuff of of revenge, but more of an uplifting thing.

'You only live forever in the lights you make' is saying that when you're dead, you're dead. But you're always remembered by the effect that you had on people, so try to make it positive.

'When we were young we used to say' is pretty damn self explanatory.

'That you only hear the music when your heart begins to break' is really a lot deeper. A lot of times, when you're depressed, you see life from a whole different point of view. You can sometimes understand the pain that other people are experiencing from a completely different level. So the angst that you sometimes hear in lyrics goes so much deeper into you.

That's what I've gotten out of it. The rest of the song kind of makes me think of suicide, which is usually why I end up in tears by the end of the song... lol

So basically, according to Gerard, The Black Parade was supposed to be MCR's final album. Mikey's anxiety, and the whole band's overall tiredness from touring and the band in genral caused what very well could have been the breakup of the band. but, after about three years, the got back in the studio and recorded an album called Conventional Weapons, which they ended up scrapping. Finally, Danger Days was made. At this point in the band's career, they knew the band was starting to come to a close. The Kids From Yesterday, and Danger Days in general is mainly about what fans are going to do once My Chemical Romance isn't there to continue to support and help them. MCR was an incredible band that helped an amazing amount of people, and the guys knew that. So in the album, they're saying that you have to be strong on your own, and that you have to learn to love yourself enough to be able to take care or yourself without the aid of MCR. You're not going to be around forever, so you might as well take advantage of the time you have.

    The Kids From Yesterday Lyrics

And now this could be the last of all the rides we take
So hold on tight and don't look back
We don't care about the message or the rules they make
We'll find you when the sun goes black

I think that they're saying that this could possibly be the last album they make. I think that they're just out of things to say. They did Bullets and it was the band finding out who they are, then Revenge came and it was them. They were great, things were working out, Gerard got sober, they got Bob, so they next record was destined to be great and it was. Black Parade was everything the fans wanted and more. That was the peak of My Chem. They almost called the album The Rise and Fall of My Chemical Romance and although they didn't I think that it was always subconsciously there. They knew this was their last chance to say something important and worthwhile. They knew after this they had to grow up. A few of them were getting married and knew that they wanted kids. They couldn't bring their kids into a world of darkness and misery. They had to become happy, eventually the band had to grow up, but they wanted to do it on their terms. They want you to hold on to them while they're still good. They want you to break the rules and do stupid stuff. You're going to make mistakes and hate yourself sometimes but when your hope is gone and the sun goes black you're going to find their music again and have hope for the future.

And you want to live forever in the lights you make
When we were young we used to say
That you only hear the music when your heart begins to break
Now we are the kids from yesterday

They're saying that if they help their fans and make them feel like life is worth it that no matter if they band retires or not they will forever live on in their fans hearts. They're looking back on the messages they sent to their fans when they were young and that when you need them is when you really start to understand the lyrics. They're saying that even though they were kids then they knew what they needed to say because at that point in time they needed help so they understood the lyrics.

All the cameras watch the accidents and stars you hate
They only care if you can bleed
Does the television make you feel the pills you ate?
Or every person that you need to be

They're saying that they know magazines and reporters don't care about them they just want to see them mess up and show weakness and get hurt. They know what pills and stupid TV shows can do. They know how they can affect you and take away you being the person you need to be. They're saying that those things take away you being yourself and your individuality.

Cause you wanna live forever in the lights you make
When we were young we used to say
That you only hear the music when your heart begins to break
Now we are the kids from yesterday

    (same as the last chorus.)

    Today, today
We are the kids from yesterday
    Today, today

They're trying to say that who they were yesterday made them who they are today.

We're young the world stopped breathing
Yeah we left 'til your heart stops beating

They're saying that they're going to go away until they have something important to say and until they need to help out the world.

Cause you wanna live forever in the lights you make
When we were young we used to say
That you only hear the music when your heart begins to break

(same as the other two choruses.)

Now we are the kids from yesterday
We are the kids from yesterday
We are the kids from yesterday
We are the kids from yesterday
    Today, today

    (same as the other part.)

I think in the wider sense this song is about music and how times are changing. Also everyone is growing up and changing and I think they are telling you to stay yourself even though your growing up and have to become a member of society they want you to stay an individual lie you were when you were a kid. Avoid killing sense of self with those "Pills and the television". Stay passionate about what you like and stay yourself, even though we are the kids of yesterday.

But in the context of the album I think the Killjoys (Party Poison, And Fun Ghoul at this point i believe) Are making a final attempt to take down BLind and probably wont make it back alive, though they don't regret anything about doing it because they think its important or make a mark on the world this way to help lead the way for the future killjoys. And I think the way the song comes back at the very end is a testimony to that idea. That even though we are dead and gone the music will still go on, in my opinion a really beautiful romantic notion.

This song was written because they are all having kids now and (as Gerard said in the interview) they looked at themselves and realized that they are kids, but grown up. its kind of confusing and hard to explain my point of view but yeah its like a really good song <33333

On the killjoy side of the song its about that they might not make it back, "Now this might be one of the last rides we take" in like the car as friends and as a group.

While on the real life side of the song, it's about growing up. the band is now adults, with a family and still living their dream. Its for us as fans as well many of us who have been fans since were little are now all grown up. And the song is about us growing up with them and still managing to be kids and that it's okay to grow up cause we will always be kids.

This song is about how Gen X were the kids of the previous generations, and now that Gen Y have come through, stealing their stuff(E.g. sayings, styles, fads, etc...)
But at heart they're still kids, and they're still young.

So they're telling the world that you only realize this when they accept it.

(BTW, I am a Gen Y so don't start a flame war, kay?)
