Nine Inch Nails - Closer Meaning

Song Released: 1994
Closer Lyrics
You let me violate you, you let me desecrate you
You let me penetrate you, you let me complicate you
Help me I broke apart my insides, help me I’ve got no soul to sell
Help me the only thing that works for me, help me get away from myself
I...

I think it is definately about sex. And ever since I first heard the song, not only do i believe it is about sex but sex only with one person that he is infatuated with. It is not about hate. Isolation-i think it means how he thinks about nothing but her and it is driving him crazy.
-
The song is about temptation and desire...The consequences of giving into temptation and the superficial, temporary joy it (sex) brings. It is referring to the darker side of sex, not the intimate, romantic part we are used to in our politically correct society. Closer suggests sex to complicate things and how you begin to rely on it as it becomes a part of you and consume you. False promises of the sex are mentioned. This is why I believe the song is written about a sex addict.
-
This song is about using sex kind of like a drug to escape from feelings of emptiness, isolation, and anxiety.
