Sarah Smiles Lyrics

I was fine just a guy living on my own,
Waiting for the sky to fall
Then you called and changed it all,
Doll,

Velvet lips and the eyes to pull me in,
We both know you'd already win,
Mm you're original sin.

You fooled me once with your...

Okay everybody, let me just clear this up right now. It was NOT a metaphor for Ryan, and it was NOT about a girl that is ignoring him or lying to him. Brendon Urie stated in an interview that his favorite song on the Vices and Virtues album was, "Probably Sarah Smiles, which is about my girlfriend, actually, as sappy as that is. When I met her I wrote this song to try and impress her. I was infatuated with her. I played it for her and we've been dating ever since. That was a huge step for me, personally. I was able to build up my confidence to write a song and try to woo her. I'm a lucky guy." He later got married to his girlfriend, who's name is, in fact, Sarah Elizabeth Orzechowski, who's first name is in the song title. That is what the lyrics are ACTUALLY about.

Basically it's about Sarah who is playing hard to get so he thinks she doesn't like him.

I was fine just a guy living on my own,
Waiting for the sky to fall
Then you called and changed it all,
    Doll,
Velvet lips and the eyes to pull me in,
We both know you'd already win,
    Mm you're original sin.

(Basically he's saying he was happy being single, but then he meets sarah and falls for her)

You fooled me once with your eyes now honey,
You fooled me twice with your lies and I say,

(Basically she fooled him because he didn't think she liked him when she actually did. He's refering this to her lying to him)

Sarah smiles like Sarah doesn't care,
She lives in her world so unaware.
Does she know that my destiny lies with her?

(He thinks that she doesn't like him and acts like she's unaware of him liking her. Then he is saying that his destiny is to be with her)

Waking up to a kiss and you're on your way,
I really hoped that you would stay,
But you left and went your own way,
    Babe,

(They probably slept together, she just kissed him and then went home. But he really wanted her to stay with him)

I don't mind, take your time, I got things to do,
Besides sit around and wait for you.
Oh and I hope you do too,

(She's still clearly playing hard to get but he's pretty much saying he'll wait for her anyway)

    And it's killing me inside,
    Consuming all my time,
    You've left me blind,
And when I think I'm right,
    You strip away my pride,
You cast it all aside but I say,

(It's killing him inside because he loves her an thinks she doesnt love him back, he spends all his time thinking about her and won't look at other woman as he only wants sarah.)

If you don’t know by the title, this song is about Brendon’s wife, Sarah. She saved him from feeling lonely or unloved and he wrote a song about how special she is.

Everyone when first listening to this song is most likely going to think of that
"The main singer is someone who is in love with a female named Sarah. They are likely going to believe that Sarah is a b1t5h."

Another interpreted that the song is a male who is in love with someone he doesn't think he can have even though she actually likes him.

Most of the people reading this don't like the first version that I have stated, though it is just as likely as the second one.
The people who have previously stated the former answer have been deemed as a poor response while the second has been rater higher. I believe that both of interpretations could be it.

Because they are both called "Interpretations" and people should be able to think of what they believe. Even if it's not what the original songwriter intended.

The latter option that has stated is most likely what the writer of the song have intended due to his actions later on in life. The latter us an option that resembles the songwriter's life and places both of the people "Mentioned or not" in the song in higher places in the melody. People most likely like these interpretations more because of the happy ending aspect.

One could say that the responses resembling the former options presented are rated lower because it does not place Sarah highly in people's minds and does not represent the songwriter's actions.

"Sara Smile" is a song written and recorded by the American musical duo Hall & Oates. It was released in January 1976 as the second single from their album Daryl Hall & John Oates. The song was the group's first Top 10 hit in the US, reaching number four on the Billboard Hot 100.
Panic at the disco did not write this song....it has nothing to do with dudes wife period.

I believe this ones pretty simple. =D Urie's trying to say how he fell I love with her in the first paragraph.

" you called me one with your lies now honey, you called me twice with your lies..."

This basically means she called him with her beauty then a couple of times with other things she didn't tell him.

" Sarah smiles like Sarah doesn't, she lives in a world so Unaware, does she know that my destiny lies with her?.."

Sarah doesn't know how much he loves and cares for her.<3 So Sweet!!

So yeah... Hope that helped. You should disregard the top interpretation because it is just silly.

In my opinion, this song expresses the love/hate any relationship has. Throughout the verses, Brendon expresses the anger he feels towards Sarah for seducing him and leaving him on the side of the road after their break up. Although they have since gotten back together, Brendon still felt that bitterness towards what happened. He also mentions that "...she lives in her world, so unaware..." which can possibly mean that Sarah doesn't understand how much she means to him, as well as how much in love with her she is. Now, if Brendon were in love with me... I would never leave him. He is a sex god.

I'm pretty sure this song was written before they were engaged or married her so, most likely he wrote this song to tell her how he was feeling and trying to get her to make up her mind about their relationship, without actually saying anything to her.

Honestly I feel like this song is about drugs or some other bigger problem along with his girlfriend. It explains the confusions and the asking her to save him. You fooled me once with your eyes can explain the appeal drugs have to some people, and the twice with lies can be attributed to the drugs once more. I feel he talks about her leaving him not because she is, but because he's afraid when she leaves because he knows he cannot control himself. Idk could be wrong, but the song really really hits home for me that way.

Personally, I think Brendon uses Sarah as a metaphor for Ryan.
"I was fine just a guy living on my own,
Waiting for the sky to fall
Then you called and changed it all,
Doll." He was was alone with his music, but Ryan changed that when they formed Panic.

"Velvet lips and the eyes to pull me in,
We both know you'd already win,
Mm you're original sin." Ryan pulled him into doing this, knowing he'd agree. He refers to it as a sin here because of Ryan leaving.

"You fooled me once with your eyes now honey,
You fooled me twice with your lies and I say" You tricked me by bringing me in, and then you left.

"Sarah smiles like Sarah doesn't care,
She lives in her world so unaware.
Does she know that my destiny lies with her?" Ryan is fine after leaving, almost unaware that Brendon is upset. Doesn't he know that he shouldn't have left.

    "Sarah,
    Oh Sarah,
are you saving me?" Are you helping me, or hurting me?

"Waking up to a kiss and you're on your way,
I really hoped that you would stay,
But you left and went your own way,
Babe." Ryan left, even though Brendon hoped he would stay.

"I don't mind, take your time, I got things to do,
Besides sit around and wait for you.
Oh and I hope you do too." He's trying to say it's okay that Ryan left, but is feeling bitter about it.

    "And it's killing me inside,
    Consuming all my time,
    You've left me blind,
And when I think I'm right,
    You strip away my pride,
You cast it all aside but I say." It hurts him, it's all he can think about.

What bothers me is that he never says who this 'you' person is.

"You fooled me once with your eyes now honey,
You fooled me twice with your lies and I say,

Sarah smiles like Sarah doesn't care,
She lives in her world so unaware.
Does she know that my destiny lies with her?"

To me it sounds like he's cheating on her, or trying to cover something up..
I've never heard the song or any stories about it, but that is what it tells me..
    Anyone thinking the same?

This song is obviously about unrequited love, in that he loves Sarah but she doesn't give a shit. As he expliciatly states. Thanks :3

He said in an interveiw that he was so infactuated with her and didnt know how to tell her that he liked her. So he wrote her a song. And now they're engaged. Funny thing is though, i bought Vices and Virtues but it wouldnt upload to my computer, so i downloaded it, and the person who put it online whom downloaded it from changed the name from 'sarah smiles' to 'ryan smiles' I smiled. xoxox
