Pearl Jam: Porch Meaning
Porch Lyrics
Running to?
You didn't leave a message
At least I could have
Heard your voice one last time.
Daily minefield
This could be my time
How 'bout you?
Would you hit me?
Would you hit me?
All the bills go by
And...
-
Its about his dad and him figuring out life without him. WTF is this world running to, u didnt, leave a message at least I "Could have learned your voice one last time"
-
Its a song about a boy standing on the porch at the house of his ex. Not accepting that there relation has ended due to problems. Maybe an unwanted pregnancy was one of the problems? He thinks they could have found a way with the bills etc.
He wants another change. At least a change of spending one last day together.
But he doesn't tell her. He can not go on and contact her. Because he couldn't bear to hold her and feel her only for one day.
Maybe it also relates with not having the change to know his real dad, not even one day.
Then he leaves the porch. Its not a place to stay. Ain't indicative of his place, left the porch. He has to move on. But he has to bear the cross home.
You can also see the song as inner conflicts.Standing on the porch figurly... Are you going for it and go into the house or are you taking another direction or move on.

It means, if you love someone, tell them!
