Pearl Jam: Indifference Meaning
Indifference Lyrics
watch as she lies silent, for soon light will be gone
i will stand arms outstretched, pretend i'm free to roam
i will make my way, through, one more day in hell...
how much difference...
-
It’s about an addict. Who thinks they can overcome but at the end theY know no matter how much they consume Or swallow poison until they become immune, how much they scream for help their lungs out ‘how much difference does it make’ ? NONE
It makes Zero difference because u thought you were a giant the whole time -
I thought it’s about a man in prison who doesn’t belong there. Like Nelson Mandela for example or some freedom fighter. Taking abuse and torture and finding the strength in himself to withstand it, meanwhile wondering if it makes any difference to the outside world.
The prison can also be metaphorical, like a dark place mentally/emotionally in which case he wonders what the use of it all is. So endurance and will power, but also doubt or cynicism. Does anybody care at all? Or is the world indifferent.
The dedication to Kobain makes sense. -
I think it is about standing your ground. Standing by and standing up for your beliefs.
-
It's dedicated to Kurt Cobain

Love this song!!
It can be interpretated in many ways in many people's minds.
I feel the Essenes of the meaning is:
No matter what pain or darkness in life, you can endure. "I'll keep taking punches"
That there will always be light "i will light the match this morning"
"I'll swallow poison until I grow immune" - no matter what you the world, bad dark fearful scary that we will eventually be immune.
"I'll keep taking punches until there will grows tired"- no matter what you throw at me, I'll still be standing, I'll forever be here lighting the candle.
This is song about ham strength, and endurance while handling pain and suffering.
