   Let's start by saying lyric interpretation is subjective, unless the artist expressly states the literal meaning before or after they write the song. Here is my subjective analysis:
   
   I'm not a woman
   I'm not a man
   I am something that you'll never understand
   (The omnipotent unknowable God)
   
   I'll never beat you
   I'll never lie
   And if you're evil I'll forgive you by and by
   (Reference to redemption through the grace of God)
   
   'Cause you, I would die for you, yeah
   Darling if you want me to
   You, I would die for you
   (reference to the sacrifice God made in order to defeat death and forgive your sins)
   
   I'm not your lover
   I'm not your friend
   I am something that you'll never comprehend
   (Again-God-see description above)
   
   No need to worry
   No need to cry
   I'm your messiah and you're the reason why
   (Prince uses the word messiah here for the express purpose to reference The Messiah)
   
   'Cause you, I would die for you, yeah

   (Again-the sacrifice)

   (A description of faith's ability to comfort, transform and empower)

   All I really need is to know that

   (Not a human. The Dove is deep Christian symbiology. Christ is Love. All that God (in the bible-not my personal opinion) asks is that you believe. Why? I think it is because there is power in the mind derived from belief, even when doubt and questions tempt otherwise.)

   I think it is about a man who is hopelessly in love with a woman and doesn’t want to let her go she likes him very much too and if things were different they would be perfect like soulmates but she can’t be with him maybe because she is already in a long term relationship and the situation can’t be got out of like the one that got away they can’t be lovers and can’t be just friends because they feel more than friends but can’t act on it

   double entendre, like so many of his songs. It could be as if Jesus wrote the song and is singing it. And also about a simp who is so hung up on a girl he’d die for her. Simp supreme!

   I guess this could be about prince referring to Christ but then the only thing that just doesn't sit right with me is when he says I'm not your friend. Jesus is our friend and so much more. And I'm not quite sure prince is referring to God, I could be wrong but it seems he is referring to himself towards another person. Idk. It could be looked at two different ways.

   U is the 21st letter in the Alphbet. 4 represents April. He died 04/21. Just a coincidense? Maybe. However, that song was about Jesus...Prince was comparing himself to in regards to his loyalty and love.

   Well knowing Prince it could be both and probably is. Religious because of the line I'm your Messiah and your the reason why. That's definitely a religious reference. But then he used the word "Darling if you want me to. That sounds bizarre using the word "darling" to refer to Jesus or the Messiah. But in the movie "Purple Rain" Prince is pointing to a female when he is singing the song. So I think that song could work for both. Just like Little Red Corvette. He is describing a car but the lyrics could also be referring to a promiscuous female. It just depends upon your interpretation of his songs.

   Jesus has already died on the cross for our sins,so that we are forgiven of our sins.As long as we repent and ask Him/God to forgive us,only then we are forgiven.Jesusalready died for our sins.

    Prince was a born again Christian when he wrote, "I would die 4u." He changed his religous beliefs to Jehovah's Witness in the mid 2000's. So the meaning of the song is, in fact, about Jesus and being born again.

    For all of you that "know" Prince, you would also know that he is a Jehovah's Witness and FYI, they don't believe in Jesus! Jesus does not have to die for us, nor would he even say he would die for you when the Bible clearly states that he already did. If you know anything about music or the industry then you would know that they pump us, our children and anyone who will listen full of satanic messages! Listen to Katy Perry's WIDE AWAKE song and you can reference where she is talking of satan falling from cloud 9. You can't deny talent though and Prince has plenty of it, not to mention he's absolutely beautiful but don't be fooled about what he is singing about and what the clear message is here. The only person/entity that is capable of being killed or dying is satan! Jesus ROSE from the dead, he CANNOT and WILL not ever die or have to "die " again!!
