Somebody to Love Lyrics

Can anybody find me somebody to love?
Each morning I get up I die a little
Can barely stand on my feet
Take a look in the mirror and cry
Lord what you're doing to me
I have spent all my years in believing you
But I just can't get no relief,...

I think you have to look at the the times in which Freddy Mercury was alive & what the beliefs were. According to the DSM (diagnostic manual for mental health counselors)at that time, being homosexual was a mental health disorder & homosexuals were considered the same as pedophiles still are today. We can't know what his intentions were, but I feel that it related to his belief in God, feeling betrayed by his faith & by God for being homosexual. Feeling trapped by his sexuality & wanting to break free to love who he wanted, without having to hide it. This could be really deep & could be talking about the loneliness felt by a gay man of the time. The inability to share his true self with others openly, being deemed a deviant or evil for who he truly was....

This song has nothing to do with being gay or not. This is just a human basic need to truly love and be loved in exchange. Freddy feels he is getting old and needs someone by his side. He feels so loney and cry when he sees himself in the mirror. Same feeling I got for so long now... He might be having a spiritual crisis, who hasn't put their own happiness in someone else? He desperately is seeking for love.

He worked really hard to be where he was. Did you know he had to work, study and play music at the same time before becoming famous? I bet he was really tired of working...

The praying is just a cry out for help. He tried to have a relationship but it seemed men just came to him because of his fame and money.

People might have called him crazy since he was an extravagant man. He barely trusted anybody who came close to him and wanted just a shag. Did you know his love of his life was Mary? his son's mother?

He was losing hope day by day but he was so strong he knew he would get over it. He felt he was isolated and needed someone by his side. He hoped to finally find someone in his life?

he needs someone to replace the love he felt with god, because he feels that god can no longer love him becasue he is a gay man. not saying that it is my personal opinion, about god not accepting gay men, but could have been freddy's perspective

This song is truly beautiful, a masterpiece of emotion. It’s obvious, yet so meaningful. It’s a deep, very sad song about a person begging to be loved however this is all disguised by the up beat tempo and major melodies. I believe this song, more than any other, reveals Freddies’s true feelings and displays how lonely of a person he really was. This song is almost a cry for help, as he looks to God to find him somebody to love him. It has nothing to do with Freddie being gay, it is just about him wanting real love, something he was lacking in his life. Again it truly is a masterpiece, and even Freddie said this was his favourite song, not just by queen, but his favourite ever.

Its about someone who is looking for somebody to love them. Yeah, KNOW is correct. ALL applies for love in general.

INTIMATE AUTHENTIC CONNECTIONS WITH PEOPLE- applies for those who WANT to KNOW each other, LIKE each other, LOVE each other. NOT APPLICABLE for ONE-SIDED CONNECTIONS! If one is cold, aloof, indifferent, shutting down, ghosting, any kind of RELATIONSHIP with them will not WORK OUT!

I would agree with the consensus that Freddy felt a betrayal or rejected by God based on the attitudes of the times.
Somebody to love means somebody to KNOW me. Somebody I can express myself to without tension or judgement. We ALL need somebody to know our true selves but finding that person who accepts all of us is not so straight forward.
Even when we have somebody who loves us and we love them back, we may not fully express authenticity for fear of appearing less reliable if that makes sense.
We play roles in our lives and sometimes being vulnerable and exposed interferes with our ability to be effective in a particular role.
This song has always spoken to me and it reminds me how important it is to have intimate authentic connections with people.

Once i read all the lyric i can strongly feel that this is not about someone needing a person to be loved. it’s actually question about GOD’s exsitance.

I think that it's about him wanting to get married in the church.. Therefore the gospel chior.. and of course finding someone to get married to.

Freddy was gay, and he was on the closet, he fantasized with comming out some day, but couldn't find someone to love....someone to support him, it seems easy to find a person to love when you're straight, but for a gay man, such a genious and "weirdo" as Freddy was it is very hard to find a person who'd understand him

@sexykat, don't know why but i absolutely love hearing from freddie's black fans. he was a bad aretha fanboy. he tried to do the screeching churchy style on "one year of love" (which a lot of white male rock fans just DO NOT GET - same reason patti didn't cross over.) he was dry-humping those big black beauties in the body language video~ haha!
and basically the only good covers of Freddie have been george michael and Sharon D. Clarke - who played killer queen in the WWRY musical. only divas understand him!

This interpretation has been marked as poor. view anyway

I feel he was so lonely that he just needed one true person to care and love him for who he was. I didnt care that he was bisexual I love freddie mercury to death. I am a black woman and I grew up on queen and a lot of black people liked their music from back in the day. I have his concerts on dvd and he was a sexy white man. So were the other members of queen and dont forget he did like ladies at first love you freddie.

    Since he says

"I have spent all my years in believing you
But I just can't get no relief, Lord!"

I thought that he has lost faith in God and wants to love someone else to "replace" his love in God.
