Red Hot Chili Peppers: Dosed Meaning
Dosed Lyrics
Closer than most to you and
What am I supposed to do
Take it away I never had it anyway
Take it away and everything will be okay
In you a star is born and
You cut a perfect form and
Someone forever warm
Lay on lay...
-
The song was written as a tribute to Hillel Slovak, the original Red Hot Chili Peppers guitarist. Slovak died from a speedball overdose. Other than the title of the song, there are several other references to drugs and loss in the song

scar tissue doesn't say for certain that this song is about a girl he knew... it suggests but never say's outright. when i heard this song, my mind simply thought it was about his ex who died of an o.d but now for me its about heroin altogether. it's a combination of a love song for a girl he knew and a love song for heroin. almost as if the two are the same. take away i never had it anyway, is the songs most heart tugging lyric, and is a phrase often used by heroin addicts because you get the high but it's never enough and you never have heroin you only borrow it. the mountain, canyon lyrics are references to his ex i think and their romance before she died of heroin. closer to you, once again is a reference to heroin itself.. along with "cut" a perfect form. in you a star is born for me is a reference to the fatc heroin ineabled rhtp to write their best songs. but like i said, this is my opinion and everyone else's are just as valid.

Ok weirdos it's about Hillel and their love for drugs! Not about AK's made up girl who he was in love with but she died..!

@HarrisonPoltorak is wrong. actually, you are all wrong. (not being rude at all just pointing out a fact). The song is in fact, as stated by Anthony Kiedis himself about a model he dated name Johanna(idk if i spelled that right) who we fell in love with but johanna did not love him as much as he loved her. "I got dosed by you and closer than most to you what am i supposed to do? take it away i never had it anyway" is refferring to that fact and when she broke up with him he was saying "take it away" and she never truly loved him "i never had it anyway". @HarrisonPoltorak obviously never really read the book....so yea...there Are songs about hillel [my lovely man, this is the place (it refers to him "the day my best friend dies ") and a few references in Under the Bridge...etc.]
-
Okay,
@HarrisonPoltorak I went out and got Scar Tissue and read the whole thing after reading your comment. First of all there were only ever five guitar players for the chili peppers. Second of all he never gives any meaning behind any songs on by the way. It could be about Kim Jones -
YOU GUYS ARN't REAL CHILI PEPPERS FANS!! First of all the dude who read scar tissue didn't pay attention because Anthony Kiedis explains that this song "Dosed" from the "By The Way" album is about Hillel Slovak the first guitar player of The Red Hot Chili Peppers, also the best of the 9 guitar players that have played with the chili peppers over the years. Hillel Slovak was also Anthony's best friend. Then Hillel Slovak died from a heroin overdose. So get your facts right. Oh and the dude who said it's about a abortion, your a fucking dumb ass. just leave this shit to the people who appreciate music and actually understand the meaning of things.
-
Guys, it`s about a lover he had that got pregnant but his lover was married so she had an abortion.
Let me explain:
"In you a star is born someone forever warm" - a child, no?
"Climb on your seahorse this ride is right on course" - OK, what do we no about seahorses? They mate for life with there partners. The lover goes back with here lover and doesn't change here course.
From the rest of the lyrics it's easy to see that they are lovers and it's only logical that "take it away I never had it anyway" refers to an abortion. -
I think there is a lot of confusion going on here. "This is the Place" is the song where he says "Can I get some vaseline/Step into a modern scene." "Dosed" is where Anthony sings "I got dosed by you/closer than most to you..." The former seems to be the Hillel song with its drug references but Dosed seems to be about love lost.

Yea that guy is right there is nothing to do with gasoline wolverines modern scences or any of that and first guy your thinking of this is the place
