Sabrina Carpenter: Skin Meaning
Song Released: 2021
Skin Lyrics
Maybe we could've been friends
If I met you in another life
Maybe then we could pretend
There's no gravity in the words we write
Maybe you didn't mean it
Maybe "blonde" was the only rhyme
The only rhyme
[Pre-Chorus]

To me, this song is similar to Kesha's "Warrior," if you really think about it. Like "Warrior," it's about standing up for yourself, but this song touches more on setting boundaries in a romantic relationship instead of just in life. Even dating partners have their boundaries, and this song is about respecting those boundaries and acknowledging them.
I also think it's about keeping the people you don't want in your life out of your life. In the song, she describes that she's happy with her supposed new boyfriend, and her ex hates that she is. This just goes to show that if someone you used to care for hates it when you're happy with someone else, then don't let them back into your life. Set your boundaries, and do what makes you happy. -
Most likely a response to the song Drivers License by Olivia Rodrigo, who complains about her boyfriend being stolen by a blonde girl. Presumably referring to the relationship between Joshua Bassett and Sabrina. Sabrina attacks Sabrina's side of the story, pointing out that her relationship and happiness won't be affected by smears and jealousy.
