For me the song is about a person who uses one night stand to cover up for the loneliness he is feeling. However, at the end of the day he knows what he really longs for... companionship, love and support...
"This ain't love its clear to see" - a phrase used to hide what he longs for - LOVE. Because still, he is afraid of opening up for everything he is and everything he feels.
It's about a person who wants people to know that he needs Love but afraid to open everything about him because he is afraid of getting hurt too. -

- The one night stand portrays an addiction of some sort. This "love" he needs could come from various sources, man, woman, drugs, alcohol. He cant leave the addiction, he doesnt want it to go away or leave.

Right now the song means a lot to me. I feel it is about a relationship that just didn't work, they weren't in love. But he doesn't want to girl to leave because he isn't ready to be alone. So until he finds someone who he truly is in love with, he wants the girl to stay around to fill that empty void.

This ain't love, it's clear to see. I've been listening to this song lately, because like some other commenters it describes my current sex partner. My man is most definitely narcisstic and broken by a lifetime of being abandoned. He feels lonely but almost never admits it for fear of appearing weak. He loudly brags about how easy getting a one-night stand would be for him but yet his actual behavior is to be with one woman only for months. But he refuses to be romantic or otherwise soft/compassionate and asks us women (me at the moment) to please not develop feelings for him. ..but to still hold him and love him. He talks about dreams of finding an amazing wife and starting a family, but is too scared of being hurt to actually put his heart out on the market. He acts disrespectful, especially in public, but the minute you try to walk away from contact he breaks down in deep remorse for his actions. It's sad because I enjoy his company, there is friendship outside of the sex, and yet I know I should keep on walking away to be done with such disrespect. I love him as a friend but have been trying to protect my heart from feeling more. But I don't want to be alone at the moment either. I, too, feel broken by a steady string of abandonment.

I agree with the above post about a narcissist. I feel he is and that's why he comes back. Things are cloudy right now as I am trying to walk. As soon as I say I am done he freaks...yet he won't commit. I am ready to give him love have been for a while. He doesn't want to accept it. Sad -
