This song is about someone who isn't sure whether to stay in a relationship with another individual because he isn't sure if their relationship will continue to be perfect or almost perfect. He is trying to say that he needs to watch where he steps before he falls... this is his way of saying that he is just looking out for both of them and that he believes that it's best for them to break away from each other before something else worst breaks them up.I see it as he just rather would like to stay friends.
