Slipknot: Before I Forget Meaning

Album cover for Before I Forget album cover

Song Released: 2005

Before I Forget Lyrics

Go!

Stapled shut, inside an outside world and I'm
Sealed in tight, bizarre but right at home
Claustrophobic, closing in and I'm
Catastrophic, not again
I'm smeared across the page, and doused in gasoline
I wear you like a stain, yet I'm...

    Great lyrics.
He doesn't suffer he's life(bizzare but right at home) but he remembers that he's more powerful than that (,,i will remember before i forget'',,i was a creature before i could stand'').Great lyrics.

No it's about the lead singer's father. He left when he was just a little kid.

The idea is he's trying to get the point across that everything about Slipknot has changed him and made him who he is today, the "I wear you like a stain, yet I'm the one who's obscene" could be about how his mask is the responsibility that he has followed to become the sort of "leader" of the maggots and a lot of news reporters despise who is despite the fact he has put all that effort in.

I'm probably wrong, but that's what I think.

The interpretation my husband had was "I am a world before I am a man" and "I was a creature before I could stand" are linked to the belief in evolution. The creature is the ape that was once crouching and evolved into a standing man.
I think they are expressing their beliefs in evolution and/or against the belief of God.

This interpretation has been marked as poor. view anyway

I always thought this was about a negative view on abortion, because its such a hot topic in the states.

the "I am a world before I am a man" is saying that there's life before birth.

wear you like a stain, yet I'm the one whos obscene >> pregnant teeager ? you is the child ?

and the whole slow section is about it being a choice to kill the child and have it aborted or keep it

I think that this song is about remembering where you have come from hence the lyrics "I am a world before I am a man" and the other parts of the chorus.
