#1 top rated interpretation:I think these songs are about a murder. This is just my opinion though I dunno if it's right or wrong. Part one is about the act while part 2 is about the after math it does make sense if you think about it.
Part one is more aggressive and heavier as it's about killing. And the video everything moves fast around her because the murder is focused on her or the fact that she doesn't exist, she's been killed.
Part two is much more softer because he's guilty or whatever. And in the video she's lying on the ground not moving she's dead her bodies been dumped there. It obvious in the lyrics too.
Part one.

maybe she's done something to hurt him and he's seen and taken her home and she'll always stay there forever because he killed her there.
Hard to say what caught my attention fixed and crazy.
he can't remember what about her caught his attention in the first place then he remembers it was crazy on both parts or he's now fixed upon killing her and it's driving him crazy.

he exists through his need of killing linking back to the theory that he's hurt him she's a desire inside of him or love inside of him that he hates from what she's done.

When he sees her he gets nervous about his deed. Maybe the perverse thing is about a necrophilia (someone who fucks dead people) the stress of killing her is getting heavy so its now or never or it could mean that he's getting perverse because he's going to get such a sick pleasure from hurting her.

maybe when he killed her the temples on her head where on his chest or as he's killing her their on his chest.

he doesn't know how to cope when she's upset him in such a way. She's really hurt him and he doesn't know how to cope

hes ashamed of killing her all of pain that he caused her of all of the pain that its causing him now is all that he's done he'd do anything to bring her back to life.

he dosn't know how to cope with greiving because he's the one who killed her she's still everything to him he misses her.
The unrequited dream,The song that no one sings,The unattainable.She's a myth that I have to believe in,All I need to make it real is one more reason
he uses dream because maybe she was too good to be true she was something that should be impossible or maybe her death should be something that's impossible. The song that no one songs could be meaning no one misses her or is greiving her. The unattainable means that her being brought back to life is impossible the myth part I think means that her being alive or that he didn't kill hers a myth that he has to believe or else he'll go crazy or get arrested all he needs to make others believe or himself is another reason.

hes torn into pieces with what he's done he catches the word murder in his throat and he chokes on sadness he dosn't want to turn himself in or kill himself or whatever but he has to or else he's going to go crazy
either that or it's about a stalker. That's could be why they take of the masks in the video and put on human masks the stalker disguise himself by hiding by the one they want.

could be the stalkers desire to have the person. -

#2 top rated interpretation:I think it's disillusion since scarlet is dark red, vermilion being dark red fading to reddish orange. He had this image of Scarlet and with time, he found out that that perfect image of scarlet isn't real (through discussions and fights and as he keeps knowing her more, he keeps finding more imperfections) he can't make her real, cause that perfect image is gone and doesn't exist. So the relationship went from Scarlet (the dark red) to Vermilion(dark red to reddish orange). That's MY theory. I don't know if I'm right. but that could be the right one

I think it a two degrees interpretation. One thing is an obsetion for a personne, I gess as echo of the 1st part. But, as many times, obsestion is not fundamented on real things. It's based on the utopic idea y you make of a persone.
There is on one part the frustrated obsetion. In an oder part, he realises that what he is been obsesed with dosn't exist.
It's like, oh my god, i know what I'm looking for in a girl, but it's imposible to find it. She isn't reel. I can't find it. Like awaking of a very nice and realistic concient dream. I 'm sad becoase i know that what i'm looking for is imposible to find. I ' ve been obsesed with this girl thinking she was something else of what she is.
It's also a wich to preserv himself of geeting obsesed again, to stay numb. Or protect himself of the sadness of this frustration. (Sorry formy bad inglish) -
This song is about men who fantasize about women who don't exist, whether they be dead or just a figment of their sick imagination. It's about torturted souls / socio-paths who fantasize about having a woman to meet their every need, but all they do is sit around and fantasize about this 'dream' woman instead of pursuing a relationship. That's why the tone is so depressing, because that's exactly what Slipknot was striving for when creating this song. I know it sounds weird, but that's exactly what they were aiming for.

My interpretation is that yeah it's about Slipknot's evolving but also I think it has a lil to do with shawn's wife passing but hey only the 9 of Slipknot know for fact what it means

Ok, the 666 guy was kinda right. I just heard this song... And I knew exactly what it's about... It's a personification of Babylon the great, or the great harlot. He wants her for the promise of an afterlife, which isn't real. He loves his religion more than anything, but he's starting to realize its bullshit and the thought makes him sick, it's a tad occult I guess.

What I got from this song was incredible, it helped through a very very hard time, I had lost my cousin due 2 a drunk driver. And her behavior before she died was impossible (the phrase "she's a myth that I have to believe in" & "She isn't real")...How unbecoming, this song has nothing 2 do with death, but the girl in the video was laying dead in a field, just as my cousin was found (dead, in a field)...My comment has nothing 2 do with interpretation. And the phrase "I don't know what to do when she makes me sad."...This song pointed out every aspect of me & my cousins ups & downs, it literally popped right out of the computer screen & into my heart. This song is very fucking dope, unreal, I love it. Thank you Cory for the outstanding lyrics.
