Dead Memories Lyrics
Even now I realize the time I’ll never get
Another story of the bitter pills of fate
I can’t go back again,
I can’t go back again
But you asked me to love you when I did

#1 top rated interpretation:They write it. The meaning is what it does to you. Helping you get through life. Or even getting through the day. I was going to attempt suicide. I was listening to them. And one sentence changed my mind.

#2 top rated interpretation:I think some people have some good interpretations, but the song is about having loved someone. "You told me to love you and I did" and than something went extremly wrong "so when I got away I only kept my scars" meaning he had to escape and when he did he had the scars of the relationship
"Dead VISIONS IN MY BRAIN" AND "DEAD MEMORIES IN MY HEART" HE CANT FORGET OR LET GO HOWEVER YOU WANNA LOOK AT IT THE FEELINGS THAT HE had given her only for her too hurt him soo bad that he is scarred from it -

#3 top rated interpretation:"Without naming names, it's the story of my last 10 years. I've been holding onto these things for the last 10 years, I've decided its just time to let them go.... "
-Corey Taylor -
This song is about a a young man and his life as a child but now growing into manhood as he tells what life was like as as he endured the continual telling of the bad things that happened to one of his parents his mother. She cannot forget the past due to the various traumas she endured which usually was a product of her substance abuse issues. He knows that her life is filled with nothing but dead mentiyrd yet she struggles to keep
Them alive not knowing how to let it go and he has decided that he must live his life without her he can’t go back again. But he didn’t get far -
I think this song is about Corey realizing that we have no hope as spiritual beings to really choose heaven or hell because we are dead. His dreams aren't dreams, they are memories of when he was living.
We have no hope, and he is coming to that realization. -

Definitely written by Corey Taylor on the past relationships in recent years, how he is looking back on memories(times) when he thought the love was real, but in reality the other half treated him poorly, and definitely played with his emotions, Corey Taylor has also written about it before, in Stone Sour's music as well. James is very clever with his guitars, fitting the moment and sending off the right vibes.

To me, this song is about letting go of the things you have been dwelling on. Whether it's the death of someone close to you or righting a wrong, its all about getting things off your chest.
"I will never survive with dead memories in my heart"
He can't live the way he wants to without moving on. -

I feel that this song is about a relationship that really wasn't real.......or a relationship that didn't end well. I'm assuming so many things......basically a relationship that wasn't good because they didn't really love each other.......
-
this is actually about all of the relationships that they have had over the past 10 yrs or so and just looking back on things so they can finally forget them and move on.
-
I think this is about a bad relationship that one of the band members has had, and how it changed them, and how they lost all that they had before.
Sitting in the dark I can’t forget
Even now I realize the time I’ll never get
(He can't forget everything that happened in that relationship)
Another story of the bitter pills of fate
I can’t go back again,
I can’t go back again
(Another story how fate can make bad things happen)
But you asked me to love you when I did
Traded my emotions for a contract to commit
(How she asked him to love her and he did, and he gave everything for her love)
And when I got away I only got so far
(When we left her, he didn't get far)
The other me is dead,
(The old him is gone)
I hear his voice inside my head
'We were never alive
And we won’t be born again'
(He hears the old him telling him it was a stupid idea. That him and the girl were never going to work out, and they won't work out if he tries again)
But I’ll never survive
With dead memories in my heart
(But he'll have to just grin and bear it as he can't go on if he holds all of his old memories close to him)
You asked me to love you when I did
Tied my soul into a knot and got me to submit
(Showing a different story, this says that she forced him to love her, or possibly tricked him into it)
So when I got away I only kept my scars
(When he left her, he only kept the bad memories)
The other me is gone,
And now I don’t know where I belong
(The old him is gone, and now he doesn't know what to do and where to go)
Dead visions in your name
Dead fingers in my veins
(All the good things he had have died in her name)

Doesn't sound like a band getting famous, to me it kinda sounds like a relationship going bad, hence "you asked me to love you and I did" but that doesn't sound very slipknot-ish so I'm not sure
