Slipknot: Diluted Meaning
Diluted Lyrics
I'm always confused by everything
I can stare into a thousand eyes
But every smile hides a bold-faced lie
It itches, it seethes, it pesters and breathes
My heroes are dead, they died in my head
Thin out the herd,...

#1 top rated interpretation:Diluted is a song written (in my opinion) about a person who is incapable to continue living. They are haunted by others, and themselves, and may have to deal with emotional problems such as MPD, and Schizophrenia. Or maybe he's just extremely depressed. Either way, the lyrics are more than relatable.

An afront to God; to being dealt a shitty hand in life as the deity of creation itself sits idle while the downtrodden makes sense of their pain. A cumulative poem starting with evil in the world being metabolized in the mind and ultimately a throwing off of the idea of an ultra dimensional intercession and empowering ones self to wear the scars proudly and self proclaim oneself above God.

I think that this song is about him being molested by his neighbor, which would explain why they never played it live.

This interpretation has been marked as poor. view anyway

I think this song is about living in poverty and taking out your frustration on how shitty your life is
"What the hell did I do to deserve all of this?
What the hell did I do to deserve all of this?" - about being poor
"Why am I so fascinated by
Bigger pictures, better things" - about wanting a better life
"Now take a real good look at
What you've fucking done to me" - about bad parenting -
I believe a different interpretation of the song. The song sounds more like the point of view of someone who was born extremely different from society a diformity, a disease, being mistreated by those close to them. They already know their ugly and different and even those close to them ( their heroes ) even treat them badly. Yet they keep a smile on their face and keep hoping the insults would one day become a compliment even a " I love you. " but it never happens. They try their best to put some trust in God because of the way he is suppose to be but they lose faith slowly. In time the dreams and hopes they had, the family they hoped loved them, the God they wished would just show and save them become nothing but a dilusion a dream better off being woken up from. Even if they are different even if they don't fit in even if those around them would most likely never understand them what did they ever do to deserve that.

I personally feel that this song is about a teenager or a young person who is extremely insecure and who is trying to play safe by cutting himself off from the society. He doesn't want to admit his flaws and keeps everything to Himself and is furious with God for not making him special...However He finds solace in loneliness and believes that's what makes him unique
