Song Released: 1985
If You Love Somebody Set Them Free Lyrics
-
Love can be liberating by allowing the one you love to be themselves. Set them free to explore and interact with you with ecstacy. Achieve a relationship that is beyond anything thought possible with complete compassion. This liberation or freedom can help reach the heights of Nirvana between the partners for them to cherish during the brief time they will share together in this their lifetime together in this universe.

well, I think the title of the song applies to me. I love my husband very much and he doesn't love me. He wants a divorce so, since I love him, I am setting him free. So, in queue with the verbiage, "if you love somebody, set them free" . I am granting him the divorce...setting him free...

I believe this song was an apology song . After the song "I'll be watching you" came out, an outcry was heard from women's groups that it was manipulative and controlling against women..So Sting then came out with "If you love someone, set them free" as his apology (or just to quiet the outcry anyway"
