Sublime: Santeria Meaning
Song Released: 1997
Santeria Lyrics
I ain't got no crystal ball
Well I had a million dollars but I, I'd spend it all
If I could find that heina and that sancho that she'd found
Well I'd pop a cap in sancho and I'd slap her down
What I really wanna...

#2 top rated interpretation:this song is as most people have noted, hes upset about his woman going off with another guy. but going back to the roots of the genre of this music as many of sublimes toons are,it is reggae. many people do not no the nature of reggae, most think it is jamaincan/ pot smoking music.well, it is that too. but its also about heritage of jamaica, the heritage i'm talking about is their undeniable lifestyle of believeing in one love, and faith in God or as you here them say "Jah". Bradley starts the song declairing he does not practice santeria(Voodoo) because he knows that in the Bible it says to wish death upon someone is as if u did kill them.. or considered just as bad as doing the deed. brad, lead singer of sublime, is getting over heart break. witnesses of heartbreak will tell you that your mind travels and u step back and do a little soul searching. hes upset at the guy who is now doin his woman, and hates the x-girlfriend too.but his morals are kicking in and he's trying to debate what he knows he feels, and what he knows he believes; which is a christian based conscience through life and music, AKA raggae ( as the majority of reggae music is ) Brad mentions his money because he is trying to remember what he has in absence of his heina.but he knows he spent it all. so his mind drifts back to the ass who stole his bitch.but as his mind keeps travelling he winds up asking himself waht he really wants and what he really has aside from the fortune and fame which comes and goes. he knows it is love. but as per his x-heina, he knows no love. so he can't define what it is hes chasing in love, but knows non the less that he is after love.in persuit of it. real love, true love. his soul will have to wait till he gets his mind and heart clear of the X.he also knows he'll have to wait to know this one love he is after. as his mind goes again,he says he'll get another woman after his love hurt is over. this is why brad was so into what he use to sing about. his lyrics went deep. so deep that people misunderstand.bob marley and many others are the same, like many of us. we are love sick. bob marley sang about one love. people forget what it means. Jesus Christ prayed for the world as well as heaven to be as one. one love, harmony, as one, love. bradley of sublime knows this. its part of the reason why he decided to create his reggae songs. it is all understood in the music industry as well as through the world, reggae includes God/Jesus in much of its songs.bradley knows about the heritage of reggae music and believes it. he has the knowings of one love as per the bible, as per his reggae music and as per his last encounter with his heina. and so he says "daddy's gonna love one and for all" this line means he is gonna change the way he loves. in the same line he knows that in the bible, God is reffered to our father AKA daddy. and there is one love for us all. as Christ had prayed for it to be so moments before he was arrested to be killed. so in this line brad is also saying that God is gonna cure all his love sick problems by way of one love. knowing love so deeply he feels the break of his heart because he knows his heart was broken after searching for love in all the wrong places. but he feels good because he knows God's(Jah'S) love triumphs.hes got to live out the hurt of a broken heart and live out the hurt of not truly knowing true genuine love.brad feels stuck because he knows he can't find or accomplish this great love he has known from the bible and the roots of the music he is singing.brad feels he can't get love with women, and can't know it through the knowledge of his music's heritage (the heritage meaning, one love) or through the knowledge of his religion. but knows that some how it is the way, love is what he's after. so he resolves to say. if he or anyone else knows or has this love he sings of, spread it around as one love through us all; as reggae music influenced by Christ proclaims.he knows what he has to do as he is in the persuit of love. he has to carry on and keep believing in this one love. when brad says "my soul will have to..."then strikes into the lead. the lead means to say he is gonna carry on persuing, waiting, singing, playing until he comes to that love. But he knows in his faith in his genre of music and his faith in his religious morals. he now knows/realizes that one love is only received or accomplished by the faith in love itself, he knows it to be innevidable. he also knows hes a rock star of sorts and there is many fish in the sea aside from the heina of the matter.he says "i've got mine" meaning hes got the love Jesus has given him. hes got the love his music bases itselve around.knowing he has one love as does the world... weather they know it or accept it or not, we are all in that one love.brad knows now through his faith in love that to love is to have 100% faith in love.then brad lets the bad side get to him again and talks of shooting the sancho. but is also still in tune to his faith and moral and really realizes that its not the guy he wants to shoot who is to blame but it is the only one there is to blame, who is satan. if the sancho really was to blame then brad knows there really would be no such thing as ONE LOVE. one love means one love. it doesn't mean one love except sancho, lol. so in the next few lines he says what he wants to do to that guy but is also saying what God will do to satan... the anti-love if u will. the whole song is a battle between bradley's mind and his beliefs on the subject of love and hate.the next few lines said by bradly to the sancho, are also said by brdley's belief in love addressing hate(sanchito). the same line is what brad knows God says to Satan. "tell sanchito(satan/hate) that if he knows what is good for him, he best go run and hide.Daddy's (God) got a new 45. (the means to kill you)and i won't think twice (it is undeniable God says)to stick that barrel straight down sancho's throat (hate will eat its words and be killed) believe me(God) when i say i got somethin(judgement/end of hate) for this punk ass(satan). what brad really wants to say is that there is just one. meaning one love. he knows his hate is turned to love for the guy who stole his girl.. otherwise his reggae music and his christian morals would mean nothing to him.he resolves to say he does believe his morals and faith in love when he says "there is just one." one love, one God. brad says "way back" because the one he is talking about is God.God way back, back to the roots. God's one love is our one love that started way back when he created all.brad says in disregard of hate/anti-love/satan, "i'll make it...but my soul will have to wait" (till i really get to know one love {AKA. God})brad never did shoot that guy he stood his ground and believed in the love he holds on to.

#3 top rated interpretation:This song is not about a guy trying to use Santeria to find his girlfriend. He says he doesn't practice it but he still knows what she's doing. He knows she is cheating on him with Sancho. He says that he will put a .45 down Sancho's throat and kill him, but he never says he actually did it.

Santeria is a religious practice mainly by Caribbean Hispanics, especially those from dominiican republic.

What does feel the break mean?
-
Heina is a cute girl.
-
the song is about a guy who has a cheating girlfirend and has homocidal thoughts about getting revenge but cant stand the fact of doing something wrong and ending up in hell because he belives his girl will go to heaven once she dies and he will not be able to *(go up , get back etc.)

This song is a story about a cheating girlfriend. It is also a metaphor for anytime he had ever been fucked over in his life.
In the story the boyfriend finally shoves a gun down the offender's throat. The lesson being that sometimes you have to step up to those who are wronging you and make them stop. -

A "sancho" is a guy who sleeps with your girl. Its not about trying to steal another guy's girl. Its about a guy who had his girl stolen from him. "if I could find that hiena and that sancho that she found. I'd pop a cap in sancho..."
