The Chainsmokers: Last Day Alive Meaning
Song Released: 2017
Featuring: Florida Georgia Line
Last Day Alive Lyrics
Always and forever the last day alive
The last day alive
Bottled up in adolescence
Bottom up forbidden essence
Twisted up in adolescence
Waking up within your arms
Feel alive and...
-
The meaning of the song is very subjective, as the way I see it, it can be taken as one of two ways.
The first way is a metaphorical interpretation. The main hinge lyric where these interpretations split is "Bottled up in adolescence." In this interpretation, it's metaphorical. The main character was either some kind of shut in, afraid of loving anyone, or possibly even in the closet. This causes them to start drinking, al-a "forbidden essence."
The other interpretation is to take it litterally, in that the main character is diagnosed with some kind of life-ending issue, and this pushes them to start drinking.
Either way, in both scenarios, they end up finding someone and falling in love with them because, when around them, they feel alive and they begin to be able to accept themselves or come to terms with the fact they're going to die and there's nothing they can do about it.
They either make sure their last day alive with this person is the best it can possibly be or now that they've been helped in loving themselves, they live everyday like it's their last day alive.
