A wealthy Victorian man takes advantage of a young girl living in poverty in a labour camp. He is presumably in love with her. He rapes her, convincing himself that she has consented and loves him back. He eventually coerces her into suicide so as to be with her in death.

They mentioned this when they played (awesome band to see live, if you get the chance), it's a young couples suicide pact.
They sing a lot of songs based in the past, as I see it it represents two people from different social backgrounds the upper class boy and the lower class girl and their forbidden love.
