The Devil Wears Prada: Vengeance Meaning
Song Released: 2011
Vengeance Lyrics
-
"You are the sickness my only sincere plague, is this what you've worked for? running your false empire to the ground" - i it means asking yourself for what have you done wrong, and blaming yourself for the result of your guiltiness.
"what is this substance, that made your very own morals change" - 'what is this feeling (new attitude/personality/change) that made you this way?'
"it's gone a little too far to turn back now" - 'you can't go back to the way you used to be'
"always running i am the outcast, keep running, keep running away" - 'always hiding, from guilt, from fear, from the past'
"on to the next one" - 'on to the future'
"how can you have no shame? gone is your reason, think of from where you came" - 'why did you do it? is it because of desperation? is it a moment of weakness? think about your life from the past, what did you say to yourself?"
"god as my witness, there will be no love lost" - 'i promise, my love won't be in vain"

This is typed on a smartphone so i appologize for the errors. Tdwps songs are always made to be open to interpretation but i would interpret it to either have something to do with contempt for the depravity of anonymous and impersonal sex or premarital sex. "on to the next one" "no love lost" it could very well mean that. Or what sticks out to me most is the line "what is this substance that has caused you to lose your very own morals?" it could be in contempt of drugs and drug use. I favor this interpretation over the other since i myself am a recovering drug addict. I think that as a whole tdwp is a very straight edge band and it is highly likely they are more observant of and receptive to noticing the numerous ill effects drug use has on youth. Lines like "all the sudden i am the outcast" could suggest the disapproval they feel for being seen as inferior for being sober people. It would be understandable that a truly straight edge person would have some contempt for the skewed norms of youth today that favor drug use. The line "off to the next one" could very easily mean the next high. I interpret things witha personal bias to notice values i see as most important. Regaurdless the song could apply to a variety of concepts and its lyrical content and brutal style certainly show the essence of a vengaence.
