The Spy Lyrics

I'm a spy
In the house of love
I know the dream
That you're dreaming of
I know the words
That you long to hear
I know your deepest, secret, fear
I know everything
Everything you do
Everyone you know
I'm a spy

It could literary be about the game of Love - meaning that Jim (or whoever else for that) is trying to get this woman - but he have to be a like a spy (calculating) in order to do and say the right things at the right time or place- or he'll not stand a chance.. He must adjust his own person after what she is like.. By that kind of voyeurism he'll be able to conquer her "love".. Love is a kind of act or play we are all a part of. And no one knows when we are being totally real towards each other..Or just acting.. And that is what the world is about - we are all just appearances that walk in and out of each others eyes :-)

Somewhere in one of the biographies on Jim it mentions that he got the inspiration to this song from Anais Nin, who in 1954 had written a novel called, "A Spy in the House of Love".

I believe the "Spy" is simply a metaphor for Music. While Music is subjective, we all listen for the same purpose. To feel. To whomever may be reading this, I hope to lead you to your own conclusion, however I still urge you go back and really listen to the song, take it all in. Note the feeling you get from the first part of the music. Purely from the Music, and then match it with Jim's words. I almost feel its a James Bond(a spy) feel. Then when it moves on to "I know your deepest secret fear". An almost unsettling progression. Fearful. The words match the Music, and I do not believe in coincidences. What are you feeling? What are you thinking? I believe Jim Morrison understood the power of words, and the power of Music and the power they hold together. In conclusion, I believe "The Spy" is a metaphor for Music. How Music can move you emotionally, and spiritually. How it can make you feel feelings. The deepest feelings. Love, and Fear.

This song,is about being in a relationship but feeling alone,a spy in the house of love. He understands all the thing that are important in a relationship?your dreams, where you are,all your friends, yet he describes himself as a spy... ingenious.. Jim I'm a spy too unfortunately..

I agree ^^^. I believe the lyrics to "the spy", is his representation of that forever feeling. one of the divine eye, watching you constantly, "everything you do, every where you go" . no matter the name you choose to call you're God by, if one. and, no matter the religion you follow, it's the "life-force that guides you", per say, deep within the inner most soul, what keeps you going . the subconscious mind, is the spy. but I also think the house of love represents you're entire being, you're truest self, you're soul, the mind...if awakened .

In English Litt class I learned that this song is just about a little Man (or men, can't remember) with big spotlights. Or, wait...that could be that other song I am thinking of, Twentieth Century Vox.

This may be about the tale/myth of Eros (Cupid) and Psyche. In Eros' palace, as Eros tries to conceal himself from her and she tries to see who is he?

In the movie "The Doors" by Oliver. They interpret this song to be about sex. "the spy" and "the house of love" being male and female parts.
Lots of things in the movie may be wrong, but they wouldn't have that part if it weren't true.

When Jim Morrison is singing about "the spy" that is just another name for God. "I know your deepest secret fears", when he says "I'm a spy in the house of love" he means the house of love is your heart.
