   It appears the song is about the human condition. It starts off as self critique and reflection on the state of political corruption and also how it all stems from our own base nature.
   
   What have you gathered to report to your progenitors?
   Progenitors can be defined as your ancestors, or inventor/founder of a movement. So we are being asked to reflect on our lives and give some kind of account for our actions/lives. Good and bad.
   
   Are your excuses any better than our senators?
   In today's political climate; corruption of moral values, the sense of what's wrong/right has been blurred. We are being asked to see ourselves as the same as any senator caught in a scandal. We too are capable of the exact same things; lying, fraud, extra marital affairs. Therefore we all have a this common ground of being capable of commitimg sin, wrong doings and trying to cover it up.
   
   It's clear the senator in the song was caught cheating but his wife stood by his side. Like the many numerous scandals we've seen in the news.
   
   The reference to Redemption Song is implying we need to find forgiveness for the wrongs we've done in our lives or have had done to us. Redemption itself means "the act of being saved from evil or wrongdoing." God has a plan for redemption for us all; which is connected to the line " he motioned to the sky, I heard heaven and thunder cry."
   
   The act of running for cover implies leaving the past behind, taking action and moving forward towards redemption. The lyrics encourage us not to stay in fear. "Don't be afraid of the fear, that's a played out trap,man."
   
   Throughout the song the wife of the senator who did her wrong is being encouraged to "run for cover" as we too being encouraged. That means running from the past and finding redemption.
   
   In my own personal view this would mean finding redemption "being saved."
   Personally it would mean finding a right relationship with God, asking Him (Jesus Christ) to forgive us of our sins so we may also gain the strength and freedom to forgive those who have wronged us. It doesn't come naturally but to forgive those who have hurt us beyond repair requires a supernatural gift. That's why we need to fall on our knees and cry out in prayer for the redemption we ALL need.
