The Killers: Somebody Told Me Meaning
Song Released: 2004
Somebody Told Me Lyrics
Seventeen tracks and I've had it with this game
I'm breaking my back just to know your name
But heaven ain't close in a place like this
Anything goes but don't blink you might miss
Cause heaven ain't...

I believe I read that Brandon wrote this about a girl who he was seeing that cheated on him.
-
Or maybe he just heard a rumor about his ex girlfriend getting in a lesbian relationship (well, that would drive me crazy)and so maybe because he wants to find out if she really did, or why or maybe because he's jealous
he founds that other girl (his ex girlfriend's new girlfriend) and tries to get to know her by pretending his just some random guy who's hittin on her. Or maybe he just wants revenge and is really hittin on her (imagine his ex girlfriend finding out her lesbian girlfriend cheated on her with her ex boyfriend).
And all this "somebody told me that...." is never said, just in his head, while he keeps on trying. -
this is sooo simple
the song is about a guy going to a club, who sees a girl and is attracted to her "braking my back just to knw ur name"
he's trying to talk to her.. then some one told him a rumor that she was dating one of his ex ...."Well somebody told me
You had a boyfriend
Who looked like a girlfriend
That I had in February of last year
It's not confidential
I've got potential
A rushin', a rushin' around"
and the rumor is going around fast.
you ppl look to deep into it -
i think its about brandon hitting on this girl saying that she had a boyfriend that he had. it sounds more like hes the gay one in the this song, look at the lyrics:
somebody told me you had BOYFRIEND who LOOKS like a girlfriend that I HAD(he did say "I HAD")in february of last year.
just take out the "who looks like a girlfriend" and its much less confusing. its not "girlfriend who looked like a boyfriend that i had" its "BOYFRIEND (who looks like a girl friend) THAT I HAD IN FEBRUARY" basically: he had a boyfriend, who apparently looked like a girl (friend) last february, and so did the person hes talking to.
i just needed to break it down -
I think this song is about a boy that looks like a girl and he had a little crush on her.
-
So the singer once had a girlfriend (back in february) who looked like a man. lol peace.
-
I don't believe the top comments are true, he made up the rumor, as something to quickly say back to her, when she said, "somebody told me you were a huge player", so why would he be fussing saying he doesn't want a rumor to ruin his night, although you have stated that he made it up, and then said he diddnt want the the rumor to ruin his night, so that conclusion really failed.
-
Why do some of you think he dissing his ex? he is saying (dripping with "irony") her BOYFRIEND is his ex, not her.
the TITLE of the song itself is pretty obvious: "Somebody Told Me"
the song is about rumors, it probably takes place in a club, but nowhere does it suggest that he has been with this chick before. -
The song is about a guy hitting on a stripper in a strip club.
The lyrics are the kind of inane crap strippers say to while away the hours and dances.
-
Am I the only one who interpreted the lines:
"Well somebody told me
You had a boyfriend
Who looked like a girlfriend
That I had in February of last year"
as him having dated a person who had a sex change. The girl he is hitting on has been rumored to be dating his ex, but since he hasn't seen his ex since February for all he knows she could've had a sex change.
-
i think it is about a guy (the narrator) who sees his ex, with another girl.
And it turns out that his ex is going out with another of his ex's (whom he dated in february) -
Okay its pretty obvious he's hitting on a girl. In an interview he was asked what the meaning was, brandon flowers said to read the chorus in a straight line over and over again:"Somebody told me you had a boyfriend who looked like a girlfriend that I had in february of last year" to make it easier, take away the "who looked like a girlfriend" part, because its just an unnecessary description. That leaves you with "somebody told me that you had a boyfriend that I had in february of last year." I'm not saying hed gay but he writes a lot of homo-y songs (where the white boys dance, andy you're a star, the ballad of micheal valentine)
-
I'm not sure if this really helps with anyone's interpretation, but this song was no. 71 on SPIN's '100 Moments that rocked the world'. The heading was "The Killers Bring Same-Sexy Back"-"It took a little bit of mormon swagger to help upturn the world of jock rock. After 'Somebody Told Me,' the Sin city boys' first flirtation with synth-pop and sexual confusion, guyliner became fierce for the rest of the decade and every girl wanted a boyfriend who looked like a...well, you know.
-
My interpretation is simple. It's about a guy who likes a girl, but he heard a rumor that she's gay, and he's confronting her about it. The actual girlfriend that he had in February isn't really important. The lyric "...you had a boyfriend, who looked like a girlfriend..." says it all. Pretty much the point of the song is that she's not giving him an answer.
