The Killers: Somebody Told Me Meaning
Song Released: 2004
Somebody Told Me Lyrics
Seventeen tracks and I've had it with this game
I'm breaking my back just to know your name
But heaven ain't close in a place like this
Anything goes but don't blink you might miss
Cause heaven ain't...

Man you people who say he's gay are stupid! Look it's simple: he broke up with a girl last year in february, the girl he's looking at now is already dating someone, and he looks similar to his girlfriend. Its that simple. Also, I know a lot of people who look like they are the opposite gender of what they actually are. Some guys just look like gals and vice versa.

"somebody told me
you had a boyfriend
who looks like a girlfriend
that I had in february of last year"
It means that the girl he likes now, may or may not be dating HIS ex-girlfriend who now looks butch (you had a boyfriend who looked like a girlfriend I had) Meaning his ex has turned gay. and him and his ex now like the same girl. -
When names aren't mentioned, the chances are that it's not about them.
E.g. Jenny wasn't mentioned.. The chances are the song isn't about Jenny! -
OK, I would have the strangest interpretation.
Briefly:
"Well somebody told me
You had a boyfriend
Who looked like a girlfriend
That I had in February of last year "
The narrator has an ex-girlfriend who is rumored to be dating a girl who the narrator was interested in dating. So he's wondering whether or not its true. -
I don't think he is gay. I think this is about a guy (the narrarator) who went out with a girl named Jenny. And then after they broke up he went out with a girl (in Febuary) to get back at her. And now the narrarator is saying that Jenny is in a relationship that seems a lot like the one he was in (in Febuary). Meaning that Jenny is going out with someone just to make him jealous.
-
I agree with the person above me. I don't see where everyone else got the gay part.

Okay, well. My interpretation is like hardcore different than all of your guys'. But here goes. I think the singer is trying get with a girl he's heard about. He doesn't know anything about her, even her name. Somebody told him that a boyfriend that she'd had at some point or another looks a girlfriend that he had in February of the previous year. Or perhaps this is just a rumor. He doesn't want these possibly fake rumors to lead him to the wrong person (never thought I'd let a rumor ruin my moonlight).
I have a unique way of interpreting lyrics, so if I just made a complete boner, don't blame me. -
I believe I have heard the band say that the lyric 'Somebody told me' is actually a pick up line on of them used.
