The Offspring: Self Esteem Meaning
Self Esteem Lyrics
And practiced all the things I would say
But she came over, I lost my nerve
I took her back and made her dessert
Now I know I'm being used
That's okay man 'cause I like the abuse
Well, I know she's...

With brutal honesty, Dexter processes his emotionaly abusive ex with this song and describes how he was not able to stop being abused, even though he could tell it is happening.
Whoever experienced a trauma bonding and being stuck in a toxic cycle just knows without a doubt what this song is about. -
The song is about a guy who has very low confidence in himself in other words self-esteem. He’s in Relationship with a girl go who ignores him except for when she’s looking to have sex with him. “We make plans to go out at night. I wait till two and then I turn off the light”
He keeps wanting to tell her off, but could never get up the nerve to express his opinions. “She keeps it up I just might tell her so.” He’s also under the impression that putting up with the pain is worth it. “The more you suffer, the more It shows you really care. Right? Yeah.” -
She’s a narcissist and he’s just another supply course. That’s all anyone will ever be to a narcissist. That’s all they’re capable of.
-
A guy is infatuated with a girl but still has issues with her and is fed up with her being unreliable and sleeping with his friends but he can't say no to her because he has no self esteem.
-
To me, the song is about some guy, who obviously isn't the most confident in himself ("That's ok cause I got no self esteem") in a tricky situation with a girl. The girl often comes to him for sex, and that's all she cares about. In the beginning, the protagonist has reasoning ("I wrote her off for the tenth time today, and practiced all the things I would say"). But when she came to the door, all of that vanished and he "took her back and made her dessert". It's about him being in a fucked up platonic relationship and not having the balls to get rid of the girl.
-
The singer is a "dweeb" and no girl will date him. However, he has a huge dick, and one girl comes to him for sex when she wants it. He knows that he should say no, but "it's kinda hard when she's ready to go."
