   This is actually about the Surf singer Carl Roster known by his nick-name Rooster.
   He was a well known lothario so in that sense,the song does have sexual connotations.

   Willie Dixon gave an interview that said it was about a farm animal...yea right BS. Members of Howling Wolf's family and fans said he had been playing that since the 30's.

   Well, this isn't a cut a dry answer. The first thing we will deal with is that this IS NOT a Stones song they just covered it like so many before.
   The second thing is this is slang that has more than one meaning. The third thing is that it unclear with who wrote it. Willie Dixon had the copyright...but many say that Howling Wolf (Chester Burnett)had been playing this for years before that happened.
   
   Only the writer will truly know what the words mean. But, at the time and still in some places to the day. the phrase has two meanings. But, first you should know that Blacks as they were called then that were not of pure blood were often called Red. Another thing to realize is that at the same time and still in some parts to the days a woman's Clitoris (Clitorus pick the spelling you like) is known as a Little Red Rooster.

   this song is completely about sex. little red rooster is a cock who keeps all his hens satsified. It wasn't written by the stones but was a R&B song which a lot of them had sexual innuendoes
