They Might Be Giants: Doctor Worm Meaning
Song Released: 1998
Doctor Worm Lyrics
Good morning. How are you? I'm Dr. Worm.
I'm interested in things.
I'm not a real doctor,
But I am a real worm;
I am an actual worm.
I live like a worm.
I like to play the drums.
I think I'm getting good,
But I...
-
I think this song is about nothing more than a drummer learning to play his instrument. I remember when I was learning to play the drums I would often have to leave the front door open for when the rest of my band would show up because I couldn't hear the doorbell.
-
This song seems to be about the desire for recognition. Dr. Worm is his stage name but it's who he feels he really is. He likes the drums and is beginning to have confidence in his abilities. Specifically in the song he's telling one person about his hobby and how he loves it. He wants to be known by his stage name but he doesn't seem to be good enough for that.
-
This interpretation has been marked as poor. view anyway
-
The way I see this song is that it is about a guy (or girl) that keeps trying even after he has failed before.
He says things like "I think I'm getting good, but I can handle critscizm." He doesn't think that he is that good, but still tries. "I'll show you what I know and you can tell me if I'm getting better on the drums." He doesn't think he is that good. He may have failed in the past, but is still trying to get better and wants someone to like his work.
