They Might Be Giants: They'll Need A Crane Meaning
They'll Need A Crane Lyrics
But happiness can't see that love is sad
That love is sad
Sadness is hanging there
To show love somewhere something needs a change
They need a change
They'll need a crane, they'll need a crane
To take the house...

Incredibly sad song about an end of a relationship. The protagonist built his life around his partner and now, as the relationship ends, everything is collapsing with the exception of his love for the partner, which will need a "crane" to be torn down.

This song is about a divorce due to a couple falling out of love. The crane is a metaphor for the end of the relationship.
"Call off the wedding band, nobody wants to hear that one again" has a double meaning: wedding band as in the wedding ring.
I've heard this may be about one of the Johns' parents.
