U2: Even Better Than the Real Thing Meaning

Even Better Than the Real Thing Lyrics
-
This is a song about pornography--specifically, video pornography. Written a good seven years before the Internet crash-landed on our planet and brought us a heady supply of free and seemingly limitless porn, the song, as well as the whole ZOOTV tour and all its hidden agenda, tucked cleverly under the surface, was not merely prescient, but dare I say as Prophetic as any Holy Script. And that's why U2 withheld the release of their live ZOOTV performance from Australia for over fifteen years!!! We, as a culture, weren't ready for it. And now, with the entire planet saturated in this new high-tech-everywhere-omnipresent in the present tense-Social Media Global Village--We, the over-stimulated and the under-minded, need incisive, mordant, and challenging art like that of U2's more than we may feel comfortable enough to admit. Frank Zappa actually hit upon this first with his "Joe's Garage" Album: Latent Appliance Fetishist: Sexual Gratification by way of machines
--or free APPS by way of BarelyLegal. Com! Ha!
