   For me the song Dreams by Van Halen shows something that is true! For example the First Verse shows that beginning of each verse is a certain time period about living with love and living the meaning of life.

   I've loved this song, both the music and the lyrics since I first heard it in 1986. To me it meant to "reach for the golden ring, teach for the sky, just spread your wings and get higher and higher straight up we'll climb"..."higher and higher leave it all behind". Pretty straight forward to me. In other words reach for the brass ring, "the golden ring", reach for the sky, "the stars, the dreams, the spirits that guide you". Whatever it is you see or feel when you look up to the sky and ponder life's mysteries or seek clarity. Spread your wings is hard because he's saying to try and fly but often times we feel stuck on the ground, either by circumstance or loss or fear, but it's saying to try and lift off anyway, so we can go higher to the next level whether in love, life, etc. To me it always felt like love more so because this era of Van Halen was always referring to love in orher songs such as " Love Walks In", can't stop loving you, etc. It's taken me the better of 3 decades to come to grips with it all in terms of feeling true love, but feel the lyrics and listen to your heart. Hopefully my interpretation will help others in their love quest so they don't have to lose so much time as I did, due to other circumstances as I had. If you feel true love - just go for it.

   I think this song is talking about reaching for your goals, moving forward and not looking back. To push yourself higher and higher to reach the impossible.

   Sounds like he's talking to someone he wants to date. He's telling her that together they can rise up to higher places. They can fly up higher and higher together as if it's a dream.
