Van Halen: Ain't Talkin' 'bout Love Meaning
Song Released: 1978
Ain't Talkin' 'bout Love Lyrics
All about your disease
Yeah, you may have all you want baby
But I got somethin' you need. Oh, yeah!
Ain't talkin' 'bout love
My love is rotten to the core
Ain't talkin' 'bout love
Just like I told you...

I think it’s just expressing a general attitude or mood. “I ain’t talkin bout love.” It’s that simple. That’s how most of Roth’s lyrics work. It’s not really a specific message about a particular topic it’s just a broad feeling or action. Jump, Panama, Dance the Night Away are all the same thing. However, I think the bridge part is about a serious, traditional relationship and how he “lost a lotta friends” to that lifestyle, and he’s got no time to mess around with that.

She has diabetes and in order to get what she needs ~life~ she needs to bleed ~check her sugar, just like he told her before

its about fallin in love with a women who has addiction and he fell hard once. came upon her... and she wants him. but she needs to prove it by giving up the addiction. substance is not importance its the loyalty. think of jesus in garden sweating blood for the cause he under taken.. the edge is surely a break up, divorce be it relationship of normal thought literally or figuratively like life... watching many struggle and die... take lyric of come on baby light me fire by the doors jim morrison talks of love becoming a funeral pile... get magine of those WW2 body pits burning.. today more families are remade home. single parents step families... the biker life or rock band actor etc self important . rare is the 60 year or as people coin it old school.. people dont committ... he making it clear its more sexual desire than truth love he offers and explains why...but if she wants to embark to change him and she serious. she needs to prove it. cause he not sold and doesnt want to be victim aka the edge and lose as he seen others. my thought including himself been to the edge, maybe marriage or live together committment as saw it go south...die. maybe betrayed by friend or he himself a betrayer cause of a women who like her promised committment that loved some one... and shes out their like that song your so vain...lyric talk about ..

Drug addiction. Very clearly. If you’ve ever been there it makes complete sense. And now I’m just typing to fill the hundred character requirement for my comment to post.
-
IMO,is a song about the Drug-scene."I heard the news baby, all about your disease"(Drug-addiction)."You may have all you want baby, but I got something you need"(Drug-dealer).-"you're semi-good lookin &on the streets again"(hustling on the streets).-"I've been to the edge baby, an there I stood an look down"(Life & Death).-"I lost a lot of friends there baby"(Drug-overdose, Drug-deals gone Bad, Car-accidents=driving High)."So if you want it, got to bleed for it baby"(If you want drugs,& don't have money, you got to barter/sacrifice your body for sex not Love)."Ain't talkin 'bout Love"...Mean Streets

A underrated VAN HALEN song that for me was/is about the Protagonist's KNOWLEDGE of the flat earth truth of God's created edge and the people who lost their lives ''there'', while trying to just find and discover it's love, while falling ''over'' there. But not to the ones and the one woman now that wants to continuously conceal the truth for themselves as some 500 yr. old Jesuit contagious ''disease''. So, the Protagonist's love is rotten to the core with those or anyone woman that wants to MESS A ROUND THE WORLD with their's and her disease ON HIS precious time.

"well I've been to the edge.. And there I stood n looked down..
I lost a lot of friends there baby, I got no time to mess around"..
"So if you want my love ypu gotta bleed for it baby!"
At first I thought he was telling her she needed to get tested for AIDS before they had sex.. Thus the "bleed for it baby" lyric. But I tend to agree w/ the other person on here. I think he's talking about a "band groupie" that was once his main gorl, until she slept with another bandmate and now she want's to be bk with him..Thus the lyric "Well if you want my love you have to bleed for it baby.. Better find yourself a friend..My friend ! " and "I aint talkin bout love " n "stop talkin bout love! Just like I told you before!"
Because he will never lover her again or love a groupie. -
I feel like this song is about vengeance and possibly-pardon my language here-hate fu**ing a woman that the song's protagonist despises for one reason or another.
Apparently she is 'semi-good looking' to the singer as well, so it's a doubly cruel song about how the lyricist is a major hater. -
There are apparently forces at work here which are destroying the life essence of this world deliberately, and this division is a means of escape from these forces.
