Volbeat: Sad Man's Tongue Meaning
Sad Man's Tongue Lyrics
-
Michael Poulsen has 3 names tattooed large, which are presumably significant influences: Elvis Presley, Social Distortion, and Johnny Cash who is the important one in this case. This song is clearly a tribute to Cash's "Folsom Prison Blues".
When Poulsen sings "And the story keep on rollin', out from a sad man's tongue", he is making a tongue in cheek reference to "But that train keeps a-rollin' on down to San Antone".
Not to mention the fact that he actually says Cash's name in the song: "Papa said: my boy, take my Johnny Cash vinyls and go", and
"Leave your Johnny Cash songs and get home".
The song is about a drifter who, it seems to me, was apparently arrested for draft dodging.
