Chorus he's asking what makes a man love this girl the way he does so he can get over her.

He's asking why is she so special? What made her the force of his life? Would he apologise and get on his knees if it means she'd be with him?

To sum it up, the guy wants to know what makes a man love this particular woman so he can stop being that man to her -
I think this song is basically about saying goodbye to loved one and getting over it.
