Yellowcard: Only One Meaning
Only One Lyrics
And I can't, I can't pick up the pieces
And I've thrown my words all around
But I can't, I can't give you a reason
I feel so broken up (so broken up)
And I give up (I give up)
I just want to tell you so you...

#1 top rated interpretation:I will peel this song lyrics per verse, so here it comes :
"Broken this fragile thing now
And I can't, I can't pick up the pieces
And I've thrown my words all around
But I can't, I can't give you a reason"
[What is this fragile thing? One word actually came up to mind. Yes, it's the relationship. Narrator had broke their fragile relation and he seems couldn't make it up anymore. That's why he couldn't pick up the pieces. This relationship had so much trouble in it. He thrown his words like promises, love, etc and simply couldn't give his lover a reason because it will hurt his lover much if he do that.]
"I feel so broken up (so broken up)
And I give up (I give up)
Just want to tell you so you know"
[Narrator doesn't know what to do to save their relationship. He tried his best, but all fail. He tried his love because one simply reason, he loves her lover very much. Altough he did give up, he still wants his lover know that she...]
"Here I go, scream my lungs out and try to get to you
You are my only one...
I let go, but there's just no one that gets me like you do
You are my only, my only one..."
[My fav' line, "scream my lungs out" means he tried his very best, the very very very best of him. He forsake, he forgave all of his lovers' fault. But in the end, there's no other way than to end this. But even it's hard, the narrator has decide to let it go. And the true purpose of his action is to save this relationship. Yes, the only way to save this relationship is to end it. The words "you are my only one" implies that even he break things with her lover, he won't break his feelings for her.]
"Made my mistakes, let you down
And I can't, I can't hold on for too long
I ran my whole life in the ground
But I can't, I can't get up when you're gone"
[Narrator takes the blame, for all the mistakes. Yes he takes all the blame, but he couldn't do this forever right? He sacrificed his ego, all the time. But then he realize, even if he suffered, the only thing that made him strong is to be with his lover.]
"Here I go so dishonestly
Leave a note for you my only one
And I know you can see right through me
So let me go and you will find someone"
[Dishonestly is the way he lied to himself, that this is the best possible way for them. He wants to see his lover happy for the rest of her life. That thing won't work if they're still together. So what's is actually that best possible way for them? He let her find another man, that will make her happy. while he himself, dissapear with his love still for her]
Note :
I don't know wheter it's true or not. It is my interpretation after all. Maybe it reflects myself much, for this song is the only explanation why i left my lover. I still love her, even now we're not together. She's my only one.
Thank's all for reading :) -

#2 top rated interpretation:The song is about leaving your significant other, and you don't know why but you know you have to do it.
"Ryan says about Yellowcard's track, Only One, "It was one of those where I felt like I had to do it, even though she didn't do anything wrong. I just needed some space to figure things out for a while on my own. And I think that's what the song says. 'You're still a great person, but I gotta go on my own.'""

This song could describe a toxic relationship. A lot of people have been there. It stinks when you lose the love of your life, but you know it's for the best.
-
another posible explanation that really fits in is that this is a song about suicide "here i go", "i can´t hold on for too long", "leave a note for you my only one", if you ready it carefully thinking about a suicide song it totally makes sense. not necesary to say that the guy is killing himself over a lost love that just can´t get back.
-
even though everyone says it is about a cheating guy, i say it is about a guy that found out about a girl that is cheating on him, or he has suspicious of that. Basically he blames himself that her lover is cheating him, and he was trying to put it all behing but he even though he tried his best he just cant. Thats why he says "and you will find someone", the guy knokws there is already a someone. When he says "you can see right trough me" he means about the time he tried to leave it all behind but the girl can see that he cant and he is done, he just has no more strengh to fight it, the pain of the betray is too much
-
no it means that two people who had a hard time have found each other and through it all are soul mates, no cheating on each other or junk like that, more about whatever they go through they have each other
-
My interpretation to this song for Only One by Yellowcard is about the guy in a relationship with this girl and wants to make things right because he knows he did wrong. He's been cheating on her and telling her lies. He tells her maybe it's not going to work out, she can see him cheating and maybe it's best if she's with someone else.
-
The songs is mostly an apology song to Ryans girlfriend at the time when they were having problems with their relationship and he describes her as his only one because she was everything to him and thought he'll never find another one like her.
-
Dude screwed up, girl lost interest, he misses her so, she doesn't care, he gives up, but before he does he wants to make one last impression on her about how much he cares for her.

This song is about a man who is cheating on his girlfriend and is lying to her saying that she is his "only one." This is made clear when it says,
"Here I go so dishonestly
leave a note for you my only one
and I know you can see right through me
so let me go and you will find someone"

This song is about a couple who are having major problems within their relationship. The guy wants to fix everything so they can be together forever because that's just how much he loves her but she's always gone doing other things. Finally he gets fed up with trying to solve things when she is so into not wanting to put forth any effort and he begins to wonder if he should just give up and move on to something newer and easier to deal with.
-
Oh wow, I loved this song so much because I connected to it A LOT! He loves someone, but lost them. And he wants her. Believe it or not, but when I'm in a really emotional mood, this song will make me cry.
