10 cc: I'm Not In Love Meaning
I'm Not In Love Lyrics
It's just a silly phase I'm going through.
And just because I call you up,
Don't get me wrong, don't think you've got it made.
I'm not in love, no no, it's because...
I like to see you, but then...
-
It clearly obvious that he is in love. The main two give away was the big boys don't cry verse and the verses about him keeping her picture but giving a silly excuse that he is hiding a a nasty stain on the wall.
Listening to the song for a second time then it all comes together that he is in love but he is in denial. The reason of the denial is unclear but, he put on this defense saying he is not in love and that she will wait a long time for him, while at the same time he is saying I'd like to see you, if I call you don't make a fuss and don't think that you got it made, and dont ask for your picture back, Lol. This song pure genius. A paradoxical masterpiece. -
I feel it's a denial of his love. Hurt feelings can cause fear. He's in love, but fears what could happen, so he states, "I'm not in LOVE". He is in LOVE!!!!!!
A very beautiful emotional song with so much pain.
I've experienced so much pain from my first love, many decades ago, and caused lack of trust and fear to be in love !!!!! I've tasted the emotion so very much !!!!!
Love is so beautiful. Why do some people hurt the ones they love ?????? -
I think that he are she had a long reationship or were married and both were in love
with each other. Anyway it seems to me that
she did something that caused him a lot of
emotional pain. Maybe she cheated or somehow
hurt his feelings, or maybe he is a jealous
guy. He still loves her very much, but he
knows that he will get burned again if they
kiss and make-up and resume their relationship, so he repeats to himself or
to her that's he's not in love (denial),it's
just a silly phase he's going through
He is heartbroken but cannot forgive her. He
Puts-on this tough, brave front and say's to
her "You'll wait a long time for me". He
believes she wants him back, but he wants to
but cannot accept her or trust her.
This song is a musical masterpiece.

He loves her so much
-
This interpretation has been marked as poor. view anyway
-
The guy IS in love with her, doesn't think she loves him as much and feels vulnerable to perhaps being dumped. All the signs - phone calls he makes, having her picture 'on the wall' - clearly identifies he is smitten. He tries to lessen his vulnerability by saying she shouldn't tell her friends about them.....but I'm sure he would be chuffed to bits if he heard that she had (it would suggest she did love him back, love him as much as he does her, thought there was a future between them).
Hey, doesn't one in a couple always love the other more in the begining of a relationship and worry that the other doesn't think as much? Yeah, of course they do!
It's a fab, well crafted love song.

The guy is repeating what she said to him. That's why she says "big boys don't cry" Peter Eliot
-
At the beginning I thought he still cares about her and still loves her in someway but not enough to be in love, because he cried in the song. The other meaning I got is that deep down he's still in love with her but can't admit it for macho reasons. He keeps saying in the song "it's because, it's because," but doesn't explain. What's your take on the song? I'd love to know.
