Alanis Morissette: Hand in My Pocket Meaning
Song Released: 1995
Hand in My Pocket Lyrics
I'm poor but I'm kind
I'm short but I'm healthy, yeah
I'm high but I'm grounded
I'm sane but I'm overwhelmed
I'm lost but I'm hopeful baby
What it all comes down to
Is that everything's gonna be fine fine...

Alanis Morissette states no matter who you are, what you look like, or what comes your way to embrace it. She believes if the person still has a soul and friends, they can accomplish anything if their minds are set to it. In the lyrics "I'm sane, but I'm overwhelmed. I'm lost, but I'm hopeful" clearly states that when life throws an unexpected turn and leaves you confused without being able to figure out things to use your soul to make yourself happy. Alanis says if everything is falling apart to just remember to keep your soul intact and to keep negotiating and trying when everything and everybody turns on you. If you keep a steady hand in your pocket when the world is twisted beyond measure and can't be figured out; it'll turn out fine.
