Alanis Morissette: Simple Together Meaning
Simple Together Lyrics
Now with post-demise at hand
Cant go to you for consolation
Cause were off limits during this transition
This grief overwhelms me
It burns in my stomach
And I cant stop bumping into things
I thought wed...

This song was from circa 2001-2002. It came out in the album, Feast on Scraps, which is a "left over" of songs she wanted to include in "Under Rug Swept." It was released in late 2002 or early 2003, I think. I was still in high school then. It was NOT inspired by the breakup with Ryan Reynolds. They most likely were dating during that time, since they broke up in 2006, and they dated for around 4 or 5 years. In 2008, Alanis released "Flavors of Entanglement" and that is including some of the songs that were inspired by her breakup with Reynolds. "Not as We," "Moratorium," "Underneath," and so on.

This song reminds me of my boyfriend and I, we were on our way to getting engaged and married after dating for eight years. Four months ago he had a brain aneurysm while driving a friend and I home and hit a brick building at 40mph. He was gone before the accident due to the aneurysm, but the impact also severed his spinal cord because the airbags failed to go off. This song explains every single feeling I've had over the past couple months. I built my world around him and it all shattered right infront of my face. I miss him so much every single day because we were "Simple Together" I'll never have the same bond with anyone as I had with him.

It was like a girl who had built his world around this guy for long, and then everything crashes down right on her face and she can't do anything about it. What's worst is that the very person who used to console her and comfort her was the same person who destroyed this beliefs
